Contact lens advice please

I don't wear lenses every day, but I've found the 2 week disposable lenses are pretty economical. I can use them about 15 -25 times and they still work fine.

Daily disposables are very flimsy and hard to manipulate. They are ok for someone used to putting lenses in and taking them out, but are a real faff for someone less experienced.

Until you get used to handling them, coloured lenses are quite good. They usually come printed with a letter on them, so you can tell which is the right way round.

I'd avoid a contract (especially for daily lenses) unless you feel confident that your prescription won't change, and that you can handle and wear them without any issue.
Wher would i be able to get 2 week lenses from please?

I used to wear lenses. For the first few months I was absolutely terrible at putting them in. I'd have red eyes and tears streaming down my face. Then as I got used to sticking my finger in my eye I got much much better. I think it's getting used to it and not having such a blink reflex that does the trick.

I wear glasses, but being handsome I can pull them off, not everyone is as fortunate.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a babe magnet with me designer gegs on but I’m fed up of them slipping down my perfectly sculpted nose. And I’m about to start a job that involves a lot of close up, intricate engineering, so glasses will
Just be a hindrance!

Contact lenses are so much more convenient than glasses. They don't steam up, don't slip down your nose, don't reflect windows and bright lights, don't fall off when you move your head suddenly.

And make wearing face masks easier

I've had same prescription for 30 years but of late my near vision is struggling with lens - fine without. Optician suggested I try wearing a single lens and my brain should adjust. Not as effective as I had hoped. Had a play with varifocals but they don't seem to work for me.

As my eyes have deteriorated so much since working from home, and im pretty much wearing glasses from the minute i get out of bed, Ive been contemplating contact lenses.
I wear varifocal glasses and currenly have a pair of varifocals for general wear, a pair of single vison glasses for laptop work (fixed disctance) and a pair of single vision fixed long distance sunglasses in the car.

I need glasses for seeing close up (long sighted) but also to help with driving.

Can i get contact lenses that will do the same job, and if so, what type and subscriptions are out ther?
Do you just wear them for one day and dispose?
Can you get lenses that last for days on end?
Are there hard and soft lenses.

Can someone give me a good starting point and what to expect to pay for a subscription.

Thanks.
I wear varifocal contact lenses for the same reasons as you i.e long sighted. I use Specsavers and they cost £46 per month for daily disposables, this also includes an eye and contact lenses test every you years. Definitely recommend them 👌

Well that was horrible. Just tried to get lenses in. I just genuinely can’t put them in. Hardest part is holding my top eyelid open . It always slipped and then I couldn’t stop the blink reflex which pushed the lens off my eye. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I have another session next week but I just want to nail it

Yes it is an ordeal at first, after a while it becomes second nature. I used to practice actually touching my eyeball because as you say, you naturally blink when anything approaches your eye. The fun part is taking them out when you've had a beer or two 🤪

WOW theres quite a variation in prices. I think i like the sound of the lenses that stay in for a couple of weeks or a month at a time. Someone said £13pm?
Daily disposables £40+ a month?? I dont like the sound of that!

What are the advantages/disadvantages of daily disposables over monthly lenses?

You can lose them on a bike ride and not need to use the next months lens, or have some in wash bag etc

You need to take lenses out if going in bath, pool etc and for me it’s easier to just Chuck them and put new ones in than wash them and clean them with fluid, or take a case with me in a night out, so I use monthlies but keep some dailies around

yeah I guess I’ll get used to it. At the moment just say here with red eyes. This is a hump I’ll have to get across!

I feel for you mate, been there myself.

I tried for an hour at Specsavers, failed and just gave up. Still just wear my glasses when playing footy etc now because the thought of trying to touch my eyes again just freaks me out.

Folks stories of struggling at first and then getting used to it is making me think about giving it another go but honestly the experience scarred me :ROFLMAO:

Yeah part of me is there. It the moment I don’t think it’s worth it but I’ll give it another go.

I use the daily ones because I am intolerant to the fluids. I don't think you can buy varifocal for £13 a month for the ones you leave in for a month, but I could be wrong of course 🤔

I posted re Monthly Varifocals. I pay £23/m with Boots Reward Scheme, all in. Fair point re if you loose one but Boots allow for this and will supply 2/3 extra pairs free if you ask so I always have spares. Been using this type for 10 years + and I have never taken out for pool/bath/shower etc. I take them out once or twice a month, quick dunk in fluid and back in.

So I’ve finally been released to try them at home.
My first attempt at fitting them ended in failure. Left eye took a very long time but I eventually got it, it’s just controlling the blink reflex which will be down with time.
The right eye however I had a strange issue. It simply wouldn’t stay on my finger tip so I couldn’t even attempt to put it in. Has anyone else had this? Any tips? I couldn’t work out if I needed more solution or less on my the lens. Nothing I tried worked. It was so frustrating. Just wonder if anyone else had had the same issue
