Closer to the bottom three

...than the top three.

Not that I think we're going to get sucked in to a relegation battle or anything, but I was surprised how packed it is, when I looked at the table yesterday. Apart from Wycombe anyone really can beat anyone.

I have a mate who is a Luton fan. A short while ago he was commenting about it being nice that Luton were not involved at the bottom. Now with 4 points from 15, they are only six points above the line.

Still a few twists and turns to come I reckon!

as a bormuff fan, I'm loving the championship. reasons? no var - so nice to be able to score, check lino, celebrate. so many games - as a fan there's nothing better - in the prem we seemed to go weeks without a game quite often. also enjoying the competitiveness - even the teams down the bottom have quality players, and we've been outplayed by several teams battling against relegation - there really are no easy games. I'm loving the champo.

There is virtually no quality this season in the Championship.
The quality in the PL may sometimes cancel itself out, but down here it is painful by comparison.
The very few quality players stand out so obviously in this league, the rest are just hugely overpaid journeymen pretenders.
I'm pleased that you are happy as a Bournemouth fan as you are still historically way above your norm.

I like to see players be able to control the ball, pass the ball, create and use space and finish.
I get as irritated by the "professionalism/game management/cynicism/cheating" as anyone and I don't like VAR personally, but look at every match Boro are involved in and tell me we don't have exactly the same bar the VAR.
Those talking about the Northern League are very easily pleased.

There is some quality in the championship, mainly strikers e.g. Pukki, Toney and some midfielders e.g. Cantwell. The majority are grafters, up and downers. On the whole, as I've posted before, defenders are poor.
Success (promotion) seems to be a blend of this bit of quality and being well organised. However, something totally different is required to even begin to survive in the PL. Those that accept this and adjust accordingly can hang in there and build a different sort of squad. Those that don't e.g. Norwich come back down. Next season it'll be Sheff Utd, WBA, Fulham.
Just an opinion!

It can soon change, potentially only 1 point difference between current 7th place and current 13th. Very topsy turvy with the top 3. Current 4th and 5th can's afford to lose games
6th spot is wide open 6-7 teams can mathematically challenge. Wycombe look in trouble but we can look up to Luton in 15th for teams as risk for the next two relegation positions.

You aren't taking account of goal difference. Boro need an extra point to overtake any of the teams above them because of the goal difference disadvantage.

I’ve not mentioned goal difference. My prediction sees Watford drop out of the top 6 which would represent a three game turnaround ie they lose three where we win three. 9 points, current 8 point difference.

Goal difference between us and Watford is 8 goals. For us to be level on points and goal difference to come into it would mean

WWWW win by only one goal results in +4
LLDD two games losing by one goal is -2

the difference in goal difference between us would only be 2. that would be a minimum and would mean 6 games that result in either wins for us or losses for Watford would only be decided by 1 goal. two games both with an extra goal take us level.

our current goals for column is equal to that of Watford’s. I would suggest that four games that we win and Watford lose or draw would put that column in our favour.

so, yes I have thought of goal difference.. but I don’t need to as I based that prediction on Watford dropping out of the top six.

three wins for us and three would result a minimum of +3 to us and -3 for reading.. 2 goal advantage in gd to reading. Could still be made up over 3 games.

this is all aver 18 games btw

I love the optimism Newy
Play 4 forwards in Bolasie , Kebano , Mendez Laing and Watmore and let them just go at teams in roving roles , swapping and changing at pace .
Great back ups to bring on at 65 minutes to freshen it up
Tav , Fletcher , Britt , Spence , Akpom , Johnson and Coulson would bring energy .
Play 65/ 25 and let the players know the plan .
Keeps them all on their toes ready to start / come on .
Similar in midfield , play 2 rest 2 , of Howson , Morsy , Saville and Fisher , and swap them on 65 minutes if needed .
Used correctly , this bunch can do it .
Use 5 subs every game , but play the same way , high press .
Back 4 picks itself , Dijksteel , Fry , McNair , Bola , with Hall , fisher , Coulson/ Johnson as back up .
3/3/3/1 in attack but converts to 4/5/1 when not on the ball .

Fact is we’ve added in Fisher, Zebano, Mendez-Laing, Bolasie, Watmore and we’ve got Hall, Fletcher & Tavernier coming back. More goals, more assists more defensive options.. all that on top of a squad that was already in and around the playoffs. Sure we got beat by Brentford 1-4 but Liverpool got beat 1-4 by Man City.. the near future is bright and I’m sticking with my pre season prediction of a 6th place finish.

7th or 8th I reckon. Would be a good result all things considered
