Cleverly increases migrant salary

It's got nothing to do with balancing the workforce. He is trying to get the numbers of migrants down ASAP and does not care about the problems this will cause in areas that need migrants as the local workforce cannot/will not do the jobs.
This is one of those things that it is absolutely correct to do and should have never been allowed to happen in the first place but the change in policy is purely to make the numbers look better rather than because the Tories think it is the right thing to do.

We do not need to pay people below market rate to attract foreigners to the role. The reason the job is allowed to be eligible for a visa is because there is a skills shortage. If that is the only reason then that means the job has already been offered at market rate to domestic workers. If the company has failed to find anyone then they can advertise to foreign workers. In that case it is clear that the business has the money to pay market rate so what justification could there be to offer it to a foreign worker below market rate? If there is a genuine skills shortage then pay the people with the skills what they deserve otherwise it is exploitation.

The only reason that loophole exists is to underpay people so removing it is the right thing to do.

The local workforce can/will do the jobs if the pay is adequate. If you are trying to pay people the minimum and then re-coup half of it through offering "accommodation" and an over-priced on-site shop then you should be told to **** off and stop exploiting people. Pay people the necessary salary and people will do it. If you refuse to pay the necessary salary then you don't deserve to be in business.

One thing comes to mind - the agri sector.
I deal with quite a number of them and historically they couldn't attract UK workers at 'market rate'.
That was one of the reasons for the lower rate offered to those outside the UK.

On top of that we have the NHS struggling to fill roles.

Now, the 'pay the market rate' certainly needs unpicking.
Arguably - pay more than the traditional 'market rate' to attract UK workers to do that work. There are huge consequences to that.

On R4 this morning someone was on saying we have to face into the real issue rather than looking at immigration.
We haven't got enough people to do the jobs that need doing over here - was his message.
I personally can't validate that but sounds plausible

Salary threshold will now be £38k.

Health and social care workers are exempt, but care workers can no longer bring dependants with them

I'm no expert but there are huge gaps in the workforce in the NHS, social care, agriculture, building, probably loads of others. Unemployment is fairly low.

It's all well and good people not wanting migrants commin' ova 'ere but who is going to fill all these jobs in the next 10 years or so?

Yes, they are the worst offenders. The fact is they have never paid market rate. They have been allowed to pay below market rate due to foreign workers. "Traditional market rate" is just code for historic under paying.

If UK agri businesses can't be competitive at a salary that attracts local workers then they aren't viable. If the government deem for security to be important then they can subsidise somewhere in the system but it should be at a point that doesn't cause mass exploitation.

Genuine skills gap, where training is a lengthy process, should be fine as a short term measure. Importing foreign workers as a solution after a decade of underpaying healthcare worker should never be legitimate though.

Most of those industries have low barrier to entry so shouldn't. We should be paying people more and training more people.

Setting up the next labour government to fail ...limit the work force except health social care but pull the rug under the people here so they return home ..causing a future crisis.
Also a little known issue is that the staff who come here in social and healthcare often pay a third of their salary to an agency so actually take home a lot less than the regular staff. You can bet the Tory's are heavily invested in said agencies.

It's beginning to look a lot like B.S.

Looking forward to Jan when another raft of Tory MP's decide to spend more time with their family's rather than fight for their seats in the G.E.

At this rate i cannot actually see Fishy Ballsack, aka Dr Death, actually making it to the G.E. as leader.

Fair enough Nano - pretty good points as far as I’m concerned

Absolutely, traitors to this country, our public services are on their knees because of this shower of a government…and so they bow to the nutcase far right and make it much harder to bring people here to assist with shortages in critical public services.
They are utterly disgusting.
