Clayton Blackmore's testimonial was this the last game with a crowd at AP?

I know Luton was the last league game. My memory is vague, but did we play this game after the Luton Town game?

I am sure the premier league season had already started.

Blackmore’s testimonial was at the start of the last season at Ayresome.

Stephen Pears’ testimonial was the last game at Ayresome, after we’d won promotion at the end of Robbo’s first season.

Odd how Blackmore's game was played at Ayresome he'd only just signed. Would he have got a 20k gate at Old Trafford? (Depends on opposition i guess) Maybe it was part of the transfer

First (and last) AP game I took Gnomelet No1 to, he was 4.

Took him to a friendly played between Synthonia and Boro at Billingham Town's ground just after Robson took over. Sitting on the touchline, after a while the conversation went

"Dad, what are they trying to do?"

I didn't think this was anything other than obvious but you get to know with 4 year olds that nothing is given.

"The team in the red shirts are trying to kick the ball into *that* goal and the team in the green shirts are trying to kick the ball into *that* goal.

Silence for about 10 seconds.

"Why have they only got one ball?"

"Eh?"

Be easier if they had a ball each"

I have to admit for a few seconds my imagination ran riot and I wondered if the rest of the world had been missing a trick and what a riot we might have missed.

Still don't know the answer to that one.

Don't get me wrong, Pears deserved the testimonial, but I always found it a bit weird that it was the last game. After the big event of the Luton game it was a bit surreal going back in for another game

The season after we moved to the riverside we were training at AP. I remember taking my young nephew to watch us train and Branco taking free kicks on his own.

This was convinced we have moved to the riverside when the Blackmore testimonial took place, but it was wrong.

Slaven only managed a fraction of the 20k crowd that Blackmore managed.

We go on about players being loyal, but we were not very loyal to Slaven.

Perhaps if pulled off a bigger team like Celtic.

Nobody went for Blackmore as such. It was a first look at Robson's signings, and Robbo himself, and it was Man Utd.
Slaven's was a shame there was a poor crowd but unfortunately it wasn't an attractive game on offer, as you say they should've got someone decent To play against
