Cigarette ads over the years

I’ve always found vintage cigarette ads fascinating, especially the over-the-top ones from the 50s and 60s. Some of them are so absurd by today’s standards, doctors recommending a brand, Santa puffing away. It’s hard to believe they were real. I used to collect old advertisements, not just for cigarettes but also for classic soft drinks and cars. There’s something oddly nostalgic about them, even if the messaging was pretty wild.

These days, I stick to vaping. It’s just more convenient and smells way better. I recently switched to the new Elfbar Elfx Pod Set, and it's been great, smooth draws and solid flavors.

The first episode of Mad Men focuses on Draper navigating the challenge of promoting the health benefits of smoking, and in particular smoking a particular brand.

That explains a lot in terms of how smoking used to be promoted. There's a great book all about advertising (some sort of link to the programme) which has a lot of sexist, dangerous and questionable adverts from the 50's & 60's which is eye opening.

My wife and I decided only to smoke after sex.

I haven't had a cigarette in 10 years but my wife is up to a pack a day.
Joking aside, I'm amazed anyone had sex back in the day. The smell is disgusting.

An attractive woman was walking towards me on the street the other day (eyes straight ahead Festa lad, eyes straight ahead).

As soon as she drew level I was hit with the stench of fags. She went from a 9 to a 2 in 0.5 seconds.

Loved Mad Men. All that nonsense they have creatives doing in the workplace nowadays - shooting hoops and mini golf. Back in the good old days all you needed were tabs and scotch. Plenty of tabs and scotch.

Our nan used to smoke these and I loved the boxes as a kid

Grew up with smoke seeing as grandparents and parents all smoked. Parents gave up early 90s and remember house smelling so much better

Nan didn't give up until she had to go into a home as my mum was a nurse and struggling with her full time care, went from about 30 a day at 85 to cold turkey overnight cos she had to get someone to take her outside for a smoke 😂

I've always hated it, never had any interest in it and the smoking ban an absolute blessing as hated going on a night out and stinking of stale smoke next morning

You think back now and almost everyone prior to 1980 must have absolutely honked of tabs and BO, but we didnt notice too much.

My dad used to love his fags.

He said they helped him relax, just like I make a hot drink and I feel better, he lit up.

In the pub they were a sort of social glue, they were something you exchanged and something you did together, helping create bonds and friendship in a small way.

Although I never smoked and I am glad they have gone in this country. Some people's bodies couldn't take them and it took years off their lives.

If all the land used for growing tobacco plants was turned into food production instead

3.5 million hectares according to ASH

One of the worst smells offshore is having to go into the smoking coffee shop. Bloody disgusting.
