I'd offer him a new contract before forcing a one-year extension. I've seen enough this year to realise he is probably the best we can hope for, without spending big bucks, which we seemingly don't want to do.
He might still have second thoughts about wanting to stay here mind, and might just want out. Pushing an extra year on him might just **** him off, and send him down the pan, and out on load again, where he would eventually leave for nothing. If we offered a 3 year it shows a bit more faith and means he likely wouldn't walk on a free in summer 2024, or go down the pan in 2023.
He looks like he could be a very good player, who we would want to keep for a long time, and we're likely to be in this league next year, as well as this one at the very least, so should be looking to keep him.
Not sure what we do if he's on silly wages mind, but might be an idea to lock in his wage now, before we go on any further as if he keeps scoring at this rate (a goal every 119 minutes) then that wage requirement is only going to go up, especially if other clubs come sniffing.
