Chuba..... New contract?

When Chuba first came to the Boro he looked a reasonable player.... for a few games he then became erratic in his form and quite frankly most of us were glad/not bothered when he was loaned out.Now we can say he's our main striker for the rest of the season unless he gets injured.
But now we are 2 months away from January where he can talk to other clubs about his future. Is his current form good enough for us to start negotiations now in order to keep him? We would probably have to offer a 3 year contract for him to definitely stay. If he signed soon after would he do as many have and become the old Chuba again?
Over to you Neil/ Kieren.
Personally l think he is worth a punt

Scott will probably resign Aaron Connolly instead.

Serious answer - we have the option to extend his contract by a year which we will surely take.
I mean.. he would be forgiven for taking a job elsewhere after he was tossed on the scrap heap this summer.

If he keeps it up for the next 6 weeks, I expect we will activate his 1 year extension before he’s able to speak to other clubs then review in the summer.

Isn’t he our highest paid player? He will get a offer but it’ll be in line with our new model and it’ll be on him to decide.

Can see it being a long drawn out affair!

With 6 goals in 8 starts, and a nice rest in the middle of the season, could we finally be on for someone at the club to break the 20 goal hoodoo?

Chuba's first season

Got introduced to 1000 fans at first home game v Bournemouth then fan free season from there, not great
Also we were Tier lockdown from November but back to full lockdown for Jan through Jun. Can't have been easy for him mentally trying to settle in area when he can't even go out and mix , have family up stay over , all of that
Warnock moved to preferring 1 up top after about 12 games and with Britt, then Watmore , Mendez Laing and Bolasie all coming in he didn't really get much of a chance to make an impression. Glad it's happening for the lad now.

activate his 1 year option then see where we are in the summer, for all he is our best striker at the moment I feel that's due to the incredibly low expectations we have of our strikers given our dreadful history!!!!!

He is our best striker at the moment because he is scoring 1 in 2 and is doing far better than anyone we were linked to in the summer, not because we have low expectations.
As things stand right now, in early November, this is the probably the best any striker has done for us in the first third of a season since the days of Viduka/Hasselbaink/Yakubu etc.

I'd say Akpom is playing better over all right now, but Assombalonga managed 8 in 15 up to the 31st of October in his first season here, which is a very slightly better ratio.

fair enough. TBH Britt wasn't ALL bad for us, he just wasn't a £15m player.

Yeah, he was perfectly capable of scoring goals when he got the service, just very poor at build up play and wasn't great on the ball.

He'll probably stay our top scorer at the Riverside for a good few years, despite his limitations.
