Chuba..... New contract?

I looked the other day, and if it was accurate steffan is our highest paid player

He is technically receiving higher wages than any other Boro player at 80k per week - but a large % of those wages are being paid by Man City.
I'd be surprised if we were paying more than 10-15%.

Chuba's first season

Got introduced to 1000 fans at first home game v Bournemouth then fan free season from there, not great
Also we were Tier lockdown from November but back to full lockdown for Jan through Jun. Can't have been easy for him mentally trying to settle in area when he can't even go out and mix , have family up stay over , all of that
Warnock moved to preferring 1 up top after about 12 games and with Britt, then Watmore , Mendez Laing and Bolasie all coming in he didn't really get much of a chance to make an impression. Glad it's happening for the lad now.
Didn't Warnock say he also had a baby during that time and wasn't getting as much sleep as he should have been?

Warnock did say he was his number one target when he signed him and we all thought he was telling porkies. Now he’s starting to show that he does have any eye for a striker.

I don't think it shows that at all.

Warnock was quite happy to say that it was the recruitment team's target and throw them under the bus when it wasn't going well and distance himself from the responsibility of signing Akpom.

Warnock on Akpom:

"The recruitment team, he was top of their list really. We couldn't watch games in that period, we only looked at Chuba on the internet. He looked the best of the bunch from what we were looking at so that's why we signed him.

"I think on the stats, the recruitment were convinced he was the best one. He started off really well"

"He's been a shadow of himself these last few weeks, so that's why we have to be careful on the recruitment side.

"I can make anybody look good on a video. We really have to go into everything a bit more when we're looking to sign players.

"I don't think we'll be signing another player on the recruitment (team's) say after just watching a video, we need to watch players live."

That was in February 2021.

I'd offer him a new contract before forcing a one-year extension. I've seen enough this year to realise he is probably the best we can hope for, without spending big bucks, which we seemingly don't want to do.

He might still have second thoughts about wanting to stay here mind, and might just want out. Pushing an extra year on him might just **** him off, and send him down the pan, and out on load again, where he would eventually leave for nothing. If we offered a 3 year it shows a bit more faith and means he likely wouldn't walk on a free in summer 2024, or go down the pan in 2023.

He looks like he could be a very good player, who we would want to keep for a long time, and we're likely to be in this league next year, as well as this one at the very least, so should be looking to keep him.

Not sure what we do if he's on silly wages mind, but might be an idea to lock in his wage now, before we go on any further as if he keeps scoring at this rate (a goal every 119 minutes) then that wage requirement is only going to go up, especially if other clubs come sniffing.
