Chuba Akpom why did we sell him

Why? Money. It made sense

But we did play through him, as well as his goals, so he was always going to be a massive loss.
Hindsight, wrong decision but it definitely made sense at the time to me

If we hadn't have bought silvera, rogers and loaned the lad from Leeds could we not have put the wages to akpom.

I'd take him over them 3
You don't get just one player on wages like that

You get one player, and then every signing / contact negotiation after it ends up using that as the anchor point to pull their earnings towards

It makes every other player more expensive and is unsustainable

Ok mate thanks for that. I'm sure engel would be demanding 40k a week

Disagree, I doubt any potential signing would expect to be on anywhere near what we would pay Chuba.

It would be motivation to perform to a high standard though.

Not what I said, was it?

If you have a player on 50k a week and go to sign another player that players agent is well aware of that fact. Let's say we keep akpom and offer him 50k a week. Then we go after someone like Giles, they're not going to take low wages when akpom is sat on 50k a week while they sling crosses in for him. Clubs have wage structures for a reason and she they break it, everyone they then sign wants more, everyone who's contract is up wants more. You can't just say no because you've set the price higher.

Engel might have signed for 10/15k - we don't know. But when a club pays big wages out, everyone else isn't going to sign for cheap.

Didn't say they would, I said it would increase the wage bill because agents have a higher anchor point. It's the reason clubs have and stick to wage structures.

Because he was the only one we could get money for, next year it will probably be Hackney. Bigger clubs than us have sell players to survive look at Sunderland.

There is scope in wage structures to give your star players higher wages than the rest, like they do in the MLS for example.

He was offered a new improved contract by the club, but Chuba decided he wanted to take the offer to play in Germany.
The only sensible option, given his decision, was to cash in.
The alternativbe was to make him see out his contract, be unhappy and let him go for nothing.

Your talking like were signing top end players who want to match the top earners. Pay akpom bring in the other cheaper players as we have they have no right to demand bigger wages.

Giles had already gone

Not sure why he went there Ajax have never even won the Bundesliga

I would guess he wanted to maximise his pay, if Boro couldn't offer a lot more say £50k/week and Ajax did, thats where he went.

We could have forced him to stay, but then lost the fee we got and he could have sulked.

If we gave his say £50k/week and he got injured and we had a smaller squad to accommodate Akpom financially, we would be in a very difficult situation.

If you think there is an uproar about Akpom going wait until either January or the end of the season when we sell Hackney.

The cupboard will be well and truly bare then.
