Chris Wood

It's dead money but if he saves their bacon then money well spent

if they go down they've got Gayle and wood, two eatablished champo goal scorers with prem experience
Given their situation signing anyone on mega money and mega wages is difficult so meeting release clauses on safe bets is probably quite shrewd whilst also potentially relegating a rival as they've now also got a hole to fill

The thing is that clubs like Chelsea and Man City all took a little while to get up to the levels they are at now.

They had to sign a lot of rubbish to try and establish themselves as a top 6 club before they were able to attract the bigger names.

Unfortunately I think that signing the likes of Trippier and Wood is actually beneficial to Newcastle. Players that know the league and will give them the best chance of staying up. I'd actually hoped they'd throw all the money at unproven foreign players (such as Almerion, Linton) that would see them sink like a stone. Sadly what they are doing is sensible and only the first stage of them becoming a top 6 club. The bigger name signings will come further down the line. I'll still be praying that they do down though!!!

Yes i agree it's unfortunately very sensible. I too was hoping they'd throw money at unproven players. Solid premier league pros are what they need and it looks like that's the route they're going down for now. Now if they stay up they might get daft in the summer.

Based on the goals he has scored for Burnley in the first half of the season they could be sending him a a double agent to doom the toon.

£20M for a 30 Yr old ,out of form, centre floorboard smacks of desperation.

That's Route 1 footy for toon fans for the rest of the season. Hope they enjoy it 😂

£20m for a striker that has consistently scored double figures in the Premier League with a team like Burnley.

Doesn't seem that outrageous, especially when it's them activating his release clause to ensure Burnley don't get a say.
agreed, I think the funny part is that he is 'slightly' less than the players jawdee fans have been boasting about.
