Chris Wilder

Just overheard Adrian Durham on TalkSport mention he’s heard rumours of Chris Wilder to Boro, after mentioning he’s at the Barnsley match tonight.

Now he did note it was a surprise given Warnock’s still here. Wonder where he’s heard that from.

Couldn’t see Wilder coming here. Doesn’t he want full control and that’s not going happen with Scott already here. When Warnock does go would rather see the Blackpool manager come here personally.

He'd want a few quid in wages and transfer budget. I'd be suprised.

I imagine he's thinking 'bigger'

I noticed Wilder doing some media work at the weekend which usually means he is starting to look for a club to manager and missing football.

Barnsley is on his doorstep- possibly limited potential there.

Cardiff are looking for a new manager?

I don't think any Prem club would offer him a job.

Despite our league position and current lack of funds we are an attractive club for managers. Wilder would still be at Sheff Utd had he not failed.

A Championship title.
True! By a point.

Wilder won League One though, which Howe didn't; Wilder came second in the Champ by 5 points, and both best place finish in the PL was 9th.

Howe of course had a few more seasons in the PL, on a bigger budget. Both got lauded for progressive football, and got relegated because they couldn't change it when the going got tough (actually Wilder didn't, he got sacked before they went down).

For me it's a cigarette paper between them on paper. Except one's a polite guy who lives in Bournemouth who gets linked with the Arsenal, England, Everton and NUFC jobs and is apparently one of the best young managers in the country; and the other is a gruff-looking northerner who doesn't get any respect.

I don't know a lot about Wilders techniques, other than what you see on the pitch (overlapping centre halves anyone?), but I know Howe is very progressive and utilises data to the last detail.

He was talking about transition of play recently as a pundit, explaining that their analysis had established the optimal amout of touches between possession being turned over and a goal being scored. This was data right across the game, not just Bournemouth.

Sounds like the opposite of NW, although I don't know if that's good or bad.

I'm not sure this is a good fit to be honest. Wilder plays a VERY specific style of football. Firstly, we'd need that to join up with Scott's vision (and based on Norwich's style of play, it doesn't). Secondly, we'd probably need another revamp of the squad.

I think the next manager will be possession based, strong movement and technique (accommodating players in the style of Payero, Siliki, Sporar), I'm not sure this is a match for Wilder's style.

This is not a dig at him at all, I think he's a very good manager just not one who will likely meet with the vision of our future style of play.

I'm sure everyone would like that, but I don't see these offers of big wages and a transfer warchest pilling up on his in tray, during his 7 months of inactivity.

Anyway any manager that gets us promoted will get both of these, if he backs himself to be able to do it

Was Alex Neil at Norwich the same time as Kieran Scott? Can't say I'd be too keen but could potentially see them linking up again

Spot on.

Wilder is a good choice for a Championship manager and a good medium to long term for the Boro.

I know a lot on here want NW to leave, but I don't at present. To me he deserves this season, based on his results since coming and having reduced resources with previous managers, up to Mogga in say 2012. The Championship is wide open to me below the top 3.
