yeah but getting shifted from midfield in league 1, and subsequently being signed by us for his qualities as a defender doesn't provide a good justification for thinking he can do a job there surely?Dijksteel actually started off as a defensive midfielder for charlton and was shifted to right back half way through his first season
If it was straight choice between Mcgree and McNair in midfield, i would start McNair, Its not ideal but he could fill in there temporarily until we sign someone .midfield discipline is far more important than fancy pirouettesThere are absolutely no other options in midfield, unless you count McNair.
who is suggesting fullbacks , dijksteel and mcnair are centre backs in our system. as for centre backs turned midfielders i will give you 3 good ones, Desailly, Mascherano, Dean Glover.Playing random fullbacks in midfield never works well. I remember it was a favourite tactic of Southgate and we all remember how that turned out.
I agree with @wilkos_perm that I have seen nothing from Dijksteel to suggest he is a midfielder.
it has to beWith the quality we have out wide in Jones and Giles, we just need a strong, combative midfield that can dominate the ball and keep feeding it out wide.
I’d go McNair - Howson - Crooks
That's the only position I can see him playing . the nearest player in style to him I can think of would be Craig higgnett both really talented attacking players but not known for the defensive side of the gameCould even still play McGree as a 10 if Wilder wants to persevere with him
