Chris Wilder on defensive experimenting and making most of Dael Fry's strengths [Gazette]

McNair is the only realistic option for shoring up the midfield while we await signings. He's not the best midfielder, but between him and Howson they should be able to 'do a job' for us.

Dijksteel actually started off as a defensive midfielder for charlton and was shifted to right back half way through his first season
yeah but getting shifted from midfield in league 1, and subsequently being signed by us for his qualities as a defender doesn't provide a good justification for thinking he can do a job there surely?

(i know you're just making an observation)

There are absolutely no other options in midfield, unless you count McNair.
If it was straight choice between Mcgree and McNair in midfield, i would start McNair, Its not ideal but he could fill in there temporarily until we sign someone .midfield discipline is far more important than fancy pirouettes

Playing random fullbacks in midfield never works well. I remember it was a favourite tactic of Southgate and we all remember how that turned out.

I agree with @wilkos_perm that I have seen nothing from Dijksteel to suggest he is a midfielder.
who is suggesting fullbacks , dijksteel and mcnair are centre backs in our system. as for centre backs turned midfielders i will give you 3 good ones, Desailly, Mascherano, Dean Glover.
