Chris Wilder is a genius

Well, maybe!

Was chatting last night and got onto the subject of how good Chris Wilder could potentially be for us. The turnaround since he arrived has been nothing short of astonishing. I saw a stat yesterday that said there were 26 passes in the build up to Albert's goal. In Warnock's last match we managed that many in the entirety of the second half. I'm not sure I've ever seen a turnaround like that at Boro.

We got on to where he might rank amongst the best managers in our history. We were talking about the Charltons, Riochs, Robsons, McClarens etc. Early days but where do you think we can go with Wilder? I have a strong feeling he might end up being one of our greats.
Wilder is an overachiever

Robson and McLaren despite their success underachieved with what was at their disposal

Well he's the best of a 'recent' bad bunch of under-achieving managers. A couple of injuries and I feel we would struggle. I. like you are very optimistic for the future. A good new transfer window to build on the good work so far, onwards and upwards.

Well, we’ve just had another injury this week, along with our first choice left full back.

Crikey, I will have a pint of whatever they have been drinking on this thread. And get Nobby a double.

Personally speaking. You need a good keeper to win promotion, and a centre floorboard (pref 2) that hits 20+. I think we will make playoffs.

And I hark for the days of Macs underachieving side especially in the UEFA Cup.

I think the fact we go into every football match regardless of the opposition thinking we are going to get amongst them and at least give it a go is wonderful. It makes me so excited at the prospect of watching games.

I was a season ticket holder since I was a kid and moving to Vietnam in mid 2017 was hard because I knew I was leaving the boro behind. I have to admit since then there's only been few periods of time and occasional big games where I've actively turned down other opportunities to watch us. It's usually prime time Saturday night, 9 or 10pm with the time difference and my friends are socially active around then or I'm enjoying some of the limited time I get with my lass.

At the moment I can't stop watching us, it isn't Pulis or Warnock or Woodgate (I spent a year at home during his tenure, lucky me) and I've become the resident loon at the sports bar that gets the game on for me for jumping around celebrating on my own. I have that bug again and I'm thankful to Wilder, Knill, Scott, Gibson and the squad for bringing it back.

Where will it end? If we don't go up this year then a lot will come down to whether the turnaround since CW has come in has convinced Mcnair, Tav and Dael that they're well and truly on the road to the prem with us (I doubt they've really believed that previously). If they do they might see the benefit of playing a full season under a side that really pushes on with the ball and lets them show their stuff. If they elect to move on I imagine we'll get a handsome fee for them and it then becomes a matter of whether Wilder and Scott between them can use those funds to adequately replace that player.

I think Spence potentially bringing in a chunk of cash may allow us one more swinging d!ck of a season without being forced to sell to compete.

Time will tell but one thing is for sure, I'll be in the pub tonight watching the boro absolutely pumped for it.

Let’s get not get too ahead of ourselves — Mogga has done an equally astonishing job at Rovers, while Forest’s Paul Cooper has probably done a better job than CW.

But despite the keeper we are averaging 2 points a game?

Class. Would love to be watching the games in some mad sports bar in Asia!

Steve Cooper has been there for longer, so it's hard to do a direct comparison but:

He's been there 22 games, they've got 42 points in that time or 1.9 points per game.
Wilder has been here 12 games, has 24 points or 2 points per game.

Wilder has also beaten Cooper this season.

Regards to the points per game, if we ignored Wilders first two games - draw and a loss. He’s averaging 2.4points per game.

Obviously that’s manipulating the statistics but just shows to show that after allowing him 2 games grace period (a mini pre season shall we say), he’s currently averaging a league winning points per game.

If we start to click up front and starts scoring a few more goals, we will be unstoppable, currently only really mistake are costing us points. Which If we were 2/3 up, wouldn’t matter.

Well according to some Warnock was working miracles with this squad.

So not sure what that means Wilder is doing with it! 🤯

Against a decent outfit away from home as well.

Two promotions, three cup finals and a top 10 PL finish? I don't see how you can argue that he isn't in the conversation when it comes to our best ever managers.
I was referring to our debate on the worst ever manager for boro we had about a year or so ago. BTW I think Robson was rubbish but he money at the problem as did mclaren to a large extent. Wilder has got, what some thought, was an average bunch of players, playing like auto contenders.

Genuinely looking forward to games now, some of our football is a joy to watch and we don't just keep possession for the sake of it, we probe for the opening and each payer knows his job and moves for the team.

The only other similar transformations in style I can remember seeing at Boro were when Rioch and Venables took over. However, Karanka, Pulis and Warnock were effective in organising the team. I think a lot depends on the players buying into the philosophy these days and winning games helps with that.

At Loftus Road and in the recent home games you can clearly see players loving the way we are playing and the group is very together. How long that can last is a moot point, we've only had one minor set back with Wilder so far (Blackburn) and bounced back, so got to take the opportunities when as they arise. With Warnock I think by the end the players had stopped believing in his approach, same happened with Rioch for us older posters.
