Chris Wilder is a genius

Well, maybe!

Was chatting last night and got onto the subject of how good Chris Wilder could potentially be for us. The turnaround since he arrived has been nothing short of astonishing. I saw a stat yesterday that said there were 26 passes in the build up to Albert's goal. In Warnock's last match we managed that many in the entirety of the second half. I'm not sure I've ever seen a turnaround like that at Boro.

We got on to where he might rank amongst the best managers in our history. We were talking about the Charltons, Riochs, Robsons, McClarens etc. Early days but where do you think we can go with Wilder? I have a strong feeling he might end up being one of our greats.

Early days indeed, he certainly looks the part!

I genuinely think we might get promoted this season. As far as aspirations and the future goes THAT is one hell of a task.

And in other news bears do indeed shït in the woods and the pope does wear a silly hat 😉

It's early days of course, so I'm more in the cautiously optimistic camp for now, but the turnaround has been Karanka-like, but even more impressive.

I also watched that goal back - 26 passes - I've not Boro play football like that since, er, well.......ever? If that doesn't get even the most pessimistic fan excited at three ride we're on I don't know what will.

Ever? You just have to watch the highlights of the FA Cup QF at the Baseball ground and how we pummelled them with possession football. That said I loved the way we took the game by the scruff of the neck on Wednesday and made QPR look very ordinary. Just missing that killer instinct.

Against a decent outfit away from home as well.

Secondly not sure you can mention Robson in the same sentence old bean.

Two promotions, three cup finals and a top 10 PL finish? I don't see how you can argue that he isn't in the conversation when it comes to our best ever managers.

I’m 100% convinced he will get us promoted. Whether that’s this season or next, maybe even the one after but I’m sure it will happen.

I’m 100% sure we will finish no lower than 6th this season, slim chance we could even steal 2nd although Bournemouth’s January transfers may prove to much for us.

Equally if we don’t go up this year I wouldn’t mind because I’d be convinced he will take us up next season. The only potential problem would be if he gets poached by a bigger team.

The difference in the way we play is staggering and is clear for all to see, and has been since he first took over.

I thought the penalties against Man U showed how much he has improved the players confidence, players who aren’t great technically were stepping up and putting it in the top corner / hitting the side netting etc. Then walking away smiling/laughing as opposed to roars / shouts of relief! Was a sight to behold.

Definitely early days and there'll be plenty of bumps in the road yet, but what he's done so far is incredible.

I'm going into every game now thinking we can win and beat the opposition.

Under the previous managers, a game away to QPR I'd be terrified and chomp your hand off for a point, whereas with Wilder, I'm so confident.

His inplay decision making and tactics are a level above anything we've had under the previous managers.

Monk, Pulis, Woodgate, Warnock......he's better than all 4 of them combined.

I just can't believe a premier league club didn't snap him up. His record wherever he's been is fantastic.

This is a brilliant read.

Of course boro have played brilliant football on occasions, but this is didn't I think, its an identity, rather than a team raising their game.

And Wilder has done it with largely the same players that looked like a disorganised Sunday league team at times under Warnock.

Don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely take promotion this season. But part of me kind of wants it to happen next season for a couple of reasons:

- How good would it be to watch a whole season of us playing like that in the champo?
- We may have a better shot at staying up on the back of a full season with Wilder

Has anyone extrapolated our ppg under Wilder across the entire season? I think we'd be challenging for the top 2?

The turnaround has been impressive - as mentioned above he can obviously communicate his vision clearly.

It's refreshing to have a manager with a clear plan which he sticks to (and works).

We definitely didn't have that under Warnock or Woodgate who were both very reactive managers. Probably Pulis was the last manager we had with a clear vision of how he wanted the team to play.

I'm excited for the end to this season and very excited for next. I think the rebuilt job is probably only 25% done at present, expect us to be even better after the summer window.

In most seasons there are some teams that I'd worry about us playing. This season I think there are a lot of decent teams but no great teams, beside Fulham's forward line. I see it like we are an automatic promotion calibre team starting with a points deduction. We'll slowly make our way to the top end of the playoffs but we're starting too far back to think about the autos. Maybe reassess with 8 to play.

Totally disagree. You go up when you can, not when you choose.
Nobody knows what next season will look like and what the competition will be like.
The Club needs the PL revenue. And I'd rather watch Wilder's team in the prem than the championship.

Sooner the better IMO. If we don't go up this season, even with the improved performances there'll be important players looking to move on. I trust Wilder either way but just would prefer that he isn't challenged with spending the summer potentially trying to replace Sporar, Connelly, Balogun, Tav, McNair and Fry. I don't even want to think about the possibility of Jones moving on if we don't go up.

There is a way of playing, players are well drilled, combinations have been worked on, players know their jobs and are expected to execute, high standards are being set - and most importantly the players are buying into this, so man management must be spot on.

I think there is more to come, you can see improvements in players and once the 2 loanees up front are up to speed we should be more threatening as well.

Very tough ask this year to get promotion (arguably to finish top 6) but vey optimistic for next season regardless as the squad will get stronger.
Straightaway as well, like other poster said it took about a week. That’s so impressive.

We all thought the players were underachieving a bit under Warnock but didn’t see them improving this much so quickly, with no major changes in recruitment.

That’s a clear sign of a proper manager for me. I never buy this ‘I need three transfer windows to change the way we play’ stuff from managers, coach the players you’ve got. Klopp had Liverpool playing differently immediately, so did Karanka here.

Another sign of a proper team? No niggling injuries, everyone wants to play every match because they’re hungry to keep their place. It’s happening big time with Wilder, everyone’s available every week. Again Liverpool never have injuries that aren’t serious, long-term injuries. Then you look at United, where it’s all going wrong - they’ve always got a bunch of players out with knocks or ‘get your head right’ leave or little things. It’s a clear sign that players aren’t buying in if they’re not desperate to play. Karanka had, and Wilder has the same 11 nearly every week.

12 matches, 24 points, 2 points a game.
If that form was consistent for a full season, we'd be on 92 points.

In the last 20 seasons, that would be automatic promotion barring in 2016/17 and 2013/14.
Even in those two seasons, we'd have only been 1 point off 2nd.
