'Chinese Virus'

It is racist, all his presidency has been about the US Vs "the other".
He's making himself a victim from the outset for political purposes. Statesmanship and leadership are entries on pages of the Trump dictionary that he's never visited.

Did it ever occur to you that Trump is just tired of the lies and cover ups coming out of China?

They've stolen enormous levels of intellectual property and technology, they've lied and broken agreements several times in trading. The virus is from China and if someone or something from China, it is 'Chinese' do you understand that part? I'm not making excuses for Trump, but in China he has been blamed for the HK protests, Tibetan separatism, promoting Taiwan independence and tensions in the South China Sea. This is his comeback, two wrongs don't make a right granted, but he wants to take a swipe at China.

Personally I'd rather see it called the CCP Virus. You can bet your bottom dollar if the tables were reversed it'd be called the American virus in China. Actually I can prove that already, because there are Chinese dossiers, social media platforms and search engines with the term 'Italian virus'.

The CCP are the most repressive and evil dictatorship in living memory, and you're still going on about Donald Trump? If the rest of the world stood up to China rather than our divisive politicians who aren't even a fraction as bad as bad at this regime, then the world would be a better place.

Two wrongs don't make a right Mitch.

If this is the shape of things to come, a warning that something even deadlier could happen in the future be that 1, 10 or 100 years from now then we need to learn the lesson that it is all of humanity against an existential threat like this and that cooperation is the best defense.

I would think the main problem is that the virus has a correct name and it's important to not cloud the issue and advice that's coming out by confusing people with multiple names. The guidelines for naming these things has been updated to ensure that it's not linked to a place, a group of people, a group of animals, etc.

We need leaders who can give clarity to the issue, not those who use it to make cheap political points.

Absolutely two wrongs don't make a right, I stated that in my post. However given the circumstances of how much Trump is peed off with China, I get this swipe.

Funny how you talk about learning the lesson, you would have thought the Chinese learnt their lesson from SARS and trying to cover it up. They've done it again and will do so again under this dictatorship.

This is the last thing the world should be doing, fighting amongst ourselves. We should collectively be condemning China, investigating what they've actually done and covered up and punish them accordingly.

Or persuading China that some things should be exempt from propaganda and deserve the truth?
Get them and Trump in same room and knock some sense into them both as Trump was telling lies to the US public in much the same way until circumstances made that impossible.

You really think China can be persuaded?

They've broken every single free trade agreement they've ever signed. It has a judicial system that discriminates against foreigners. They censor anything and anything negative about the CCP and they've brainwashed a nation into believing an attack on the CCP is an attack on the people.

You'll never get the truth in China, people still don't even know the correct figures of how many people died from the Great Leap Forwards famine, Cultural Revolution and Tiananmen Square massacre, hell we don't even know how many muslims and members of the Falun Gong they've killed.

If you were Trump why would you want to deal with these people? Why do you think American trade envoys failed to strike out a deal and got so frustrated with their Chinese counterparts? You ain't gonna get me defending lies Trump has came out with before, but he is still a human being and has a breaking point.

At least Trump is elected and is accountable to the American public and has been seen during this crisis. Could you say the same about Xi?

This is a new Cold War, decades ago you would never have dreamed with siding with the Russians.

We have to try surely?

There are lessons to be learned from this crisis that are far bigger than anything else in modern times. We should all have a very much more enlightened perspective on what is important and how fragile the current systems are.
Who would ever have thought you'd hear a Conservative Chancellor say that an unlimited amount of funding would be made available to combat this after years of being told forced austerity was needed?
This isn't an ideological war where you can take sides.

Why did they call it Spanish flu back in 1918 ?
Seriously? It was one of the few countries not involved in WW1 and had no censorship so was the first country to publicly report it. Nothing to do with origin of the disease.

Apologies Finny - Just got further down the thread.

Or persuading China that some things should be exempt from propaganda and deserve the truth?

I think most if not all world leaders tried to play it down to begin with and no matter who was the president of the US would of done the same. Can you imagine what would of happened with all the idiots in the US if trump told them about what was to come before the government could get ready first. There was queues outside gun shops when restrictions started to come in.

Nationalistic yes for sure - Racist - No I don't think so.

But some people believe that those 2 can be juxtaposed

Debt is control and the Chinese at one time owed 9% of USA debt this has been reduced to around 5% which is why Trump now feels he’s able to be more hostile toward China than previous regimes, the Chinese have got away with so much because it has suited the West and others to buy cheap and in doing so fund that regime.

As others have said trump knows exactly what he is doing it’s all about apportioning blame to foreign lands and fit in with his isolationist Usa good everything bad us v them mantra.

Trump should call China out on this. They've accused their military of biological warfare, that's a very serious accusation and if that was one of the most evil dictatorships in the world accusing our country of it, I would expect our PM to hit back. China could have dealt with this pandemic a lot more better, they lied about locking up the whistleblower doctor and lied to the WHO that human to human transmission wasn't possible.

Whether this is from a wet market or a laboratory, China has caused havoc on billions on people's livelihoods and businesses. The rest of the world needs to wake up and cut China until the Chinese people demand change and overthrow this vile totalitarian government. The process has already begun with businesses bringing parts of their industries back home and/or relocating elsewhere in South East Asia. China has already infiltrated the west with spouting out their narrative in print media, online and in our educational institutions.

I don't like Trump just as much as you, but this issue goes way past individuals and more towards democracy versus tyranny.
