China recriminations.

Doing quite well out of it now.
They have the virus well under control. Cases and deaths very low and their econimy has picked up.
While many other major countries struggle with health and a decimated economy the Chinese are well placed by comparison.

Should we look at sanctions when this is all done?

The lessons to be learned is how China and then all the countries round about Vietnam, South Korea etc all handled things massively better than us. Hong Kong, a part of China with special status has still had less deaths in total than we experienced in a day back in spring. We had several weeks head start to learn lessons. Especially now with the second wave. In all these countries they locked down hard and it worked.

Why didn't we learn their lessons of how to deal with the virus and then the second and third waves - rather than disbelieving them?

What shut down whole areas that made our March lockdown look slack ??
And then drag people out of buildings to get tested ?

There is a reason they covered up when the virus was actually active and I say they need to be sanctioned and how anyone can even say we should follow China's lead after what they've unleashed on the rest of the world is beyond me.

We appear to have covered up a known virus in the community for at least a month after it was endemic. China was less than a week coming clean with a totally unknown disease.

I was asking if China should be taken to account for being the originator of the virus in the first place? Didn't SARS also come out of China?
Things are very serious as it is but if their poor habits continue unchecked and something even more virulent and deadly is unleashed on the world people would say why was nothing done about it? 1 million deaths and no action taken?

Maybe it's because China released the virus, knowing they have a cure, and there being world war 3 without it being broadcasted. All the big IT companies struggling sold out to China and now the Chinese economy is booming. And China own a lot It 🤔

That'll be the disease where we're now hearing of cases that were weeks/months before China declared it to the world.

The reason China is having a mini boom seems obvious to me. But I am a cynical sod when it comes to China. There economy had taken a downward turn and was steadily slowly declining over the previous 2 years, then along comes Coronavirus. After an initial blip to their own economy, the rest of the world falls of a cliff too.

Now I wonder which country had stockpiled PPE and the like and had the capacity to ramp up productions of items and resources needed in such a crisis and sell billions upon billions of urgently needed equipment to deal with this world crisis creating an immediate impact on growth whilst other major economies struggle on ......... hmmm

If 6% growth is a downturn in the economy, bring it on.

Careful. You'll be asked where the tin foil hats are kept by some. 😉

Were there? It's well documented what happened in Wuhan, but not this country months after the world knew what to expect.

They tested some old swabs from people with suspected pneumonia and flu in December in France. If it was in France in December, it was here and the rest of Europe.

Absolute horse manure. China knew about the virus as early as November last year. They tried to cover it up at the end of the year and into January by arresting doctors and independent journalists. It is not the first time neither, SARS came from China too, if it wasn't for HK alerting the world then that would have had the potential to be as bad as COVID.

As for the economy, I do hope you realise that every economic figure that comes out of China is fabricated. Just like with cases/deaths from the virus, after replacing the Mayor of Wuhan in April, the city and China stopped recording deaths and cases have been a 'handful' each day. When are people going to realise China is a totalitarian state that rewrites history, spreads its propaganda and coerces the world. Judging by some of the comments on this post and those previous, it seems to have worked.

I eventually got out of that Orwellian nightmare state back in July, however my friends who are still out there have described the situation as extremely bleak. There are huge food shortages. Local businesses have gone under. The export industry which takes up a considerable proportion of their economy has been devastated. No doubt they made billions from hoarding all the PPE back in January then reselling most of it back to the rest of the world, yet this is peanuts compared to the hit on their economy on the whole.

Asian countries in the norm have performed better in the west due to a number of reasons. From a cultural aspect, people adhere to government rules. Mask wearing is a fairly common practice, whether it be pollution or minor colds, people wear masks to prevent infecting others. But getting back to China, people really do have short memories. Local officials dragged people out of their homes. Sealed off entire community complexes. Any mention of the virus and China has been censored all over the internet. We can point the finger at our leaders, but to imply that China has came out of this smelling of roses is frankly fatuous.

Only a month before confirmed community transmission. That was quite a feat. Taiwan and other countries responded at the beginning of January; our PM bragging about shaking hands on 3 March.
