Change shape and style

I was thinking 3-5-2 our defenders seem better suited to a back three.. our best fullbacks are wingbacks.. our best midfielders look best suited as a three.. and our strikers.. ditch the super important number 10 role to be carried out by an inexperienced newbie and get some freedom into the top two.. don’t just let it rest on Latte Largs shoulders

Jones back as right wingback.. then take your pick of our left wingback.. we have plenty of cover there!

I don't hate it

Monk couldn’t find a formation to suit
Pulis had the exact same record as Monk

Only through sheer necessity did Pulis switch to 3-5-2.. we played our best football under Pulis utilising that system.. it got the best out of the players we had available.

Woodgate had a dream.. he bottled it and then again through sheer necessity was forced to play the 3-5-2.. we played our best football under Woodgate utilising the 3-5-2.. he won manager of the month.. Spence and Coulson we’re revelations!

Warnock steadied the ship, his poundshop nuts and bolts fag packet championship cheer sheet was.. fit for purpose. Out most interesting formation.. we’ll it was a variation of 3-4-3.. I think Isiah Jones was blooded on the left.. it was out of necessity.

Wilder rocks up like he was the first person to invent the 3-5-2.. players fit and suited to the system we had some good moments.. he thought he was better than the club, the players, the fans and he did a massive shyt in the bath.

LEO.. 4-4-2.. I think steadied the ship.. brought confidence back in.. kept it simple and positive with a fighting spirit.. he brought Hackney into the fold.

Carrick.. a bit like Wilder taking over from Warnock.. he inherited a decent squad with some VERY good additions. Like with Wilder we did well and pumped it at the final hurdle.. albeit for different reasons.. fine margins with Carrick.

Now.. I think there is a necessity to the way we play to get the very best out of the best players we have at our disposal.

Pulis didn’t see it
Woodgate didn’t see it
Warnock had a piece
Alan Knill showed it to Wilder who made out like he’d invented fire!

Carrick is still young and inexperienced.. Woodgate has seen it TWICE.. at the very least a conversation needs to be had.

We’re not tearing anything up here by the way.. 1 point from 6 games.. we got to find a way to win.. no point playing well and showing positive signs.. the league doesn’t lie and we don’t get points for XGs!

4-4-2 and proper disciplined approach to maintaining positions and responsibilities.

If you cannot win the battle for MF then you might as well not bother turning up.

And stop chopping and changing players. It's becoming embarrassing now - that he can't get a tune out of any of them.

Our transfer dealings currently look like Aldi 'middle aisle' purchases. And Carrick looks more like Wilder by the game.

Is Bangbus deffo crocked?

3-4-3?

---------------------------------Dieng-------------------------------

-----------------Lenihan--------Fry--------RvdB*Clarke*--------

Jones-------------Hackney---------------O'Brien------Bangbus

-----------Forss------------------------------------McGree------
-----------------------------------Lath--------------------------------

Looks pretty balanced.

3-5-2

We have players to suit that system.

Bangura/Engel at LWB Jones RWB

We have fry, lenihan, McNair, rav and Clarke any of those at the back

Cm any 3 from o’brien, Howson, McGree, Barlaser and Hackney

Up top 2 from lath, Coburn, Forss

It does seem to.make sense. I just can't see Carrick ever going for it. #WilderBack 😅

We're weak through the middle. I'd play a midfield diamond 4 1 2 1 2
Howson sitting in front of the back 4 mopping up.
Hackney and obrien.
Mcgree.
Latte and forss up front.
Sod the wings. No one scores against you from the wings as long as you have height in the middle.

Ravi can play RB.

Problem with wing backs is they are often caught out too high up the pitch leaving CH's exposed. It becomes a huge problem especially when your MF couldn't stop a dead dog in its tracks.

I. Et he would be more suited to a back three.. like all of our central defenders tbh

Our midfield.. is what it is. More 8s than 6s.. Howson is our most defensively capable midfielder.. so maybe find away to work with what we’ve got.. like utilising another central defender.. overlapping Center backs anybody?

It’s ok.. Wilder did not invent 3-5-2

I just don’t think that the players we have at our disposal are most suited to the shape that we played last season.. the longer it takes for us to figure that out.. the more needless points we will continue to drop.. in my humble opinion.

We NEED to drop 4-2-3-1

We need to stop trying to be so flipping fluid, players are popping up all over the pitch which is creating loads of room for the other teams when moves inevitably break down.

Forget about scoring we can't do that we need to stop leaking goals.

4-3-3

Barlaser

O'Brien Hackney

Jones/Forss Forss/Lath/Coburn McGree

No swapping wings, no overloads, no drifting round the pitch.

It won't happen, instead we will carry on doing what's not been working.
There’s not THAT much difference between 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3..

Both of them require fullbacks..
Smith - injured
Dijksteel - injured
Engel - injured
Bangura - injured

Rav Van Den Berg looked ok there.. should be better in the centre with Lenihan tho

McNair looked more exposed at full back than he does in the centre..

Coulson looked ok.. but like our other two left backs.. he’s a wing back.

Keiron Scott I’d responsible for what the team and squad will look like.. the recruitment’s job is to bring in the players that will suit that vision and that of the head coach.. the head coach along with the backroom staff are responsible for bringing that vision and showing that work on the pitch..

However.. much like a game of kerplunk with too many straws removed.. we are losing our marbles!!

Every formation has strengths and weaknesses. The extra cb can help strengthen you from crosses when players find space out wide
