Cassette tape revival

Not many people know this... but you could actually record the charts countdown radio show on a Sunday tea time ..straight to tape. 🤷‍♂️ The only predicament was using a TDK 90 you had to let some of the songs go .. as not enough room on the tape and you had to pause and restart according to the man talking about the songs anf the positions and if it was moving up or down,, didn't want too much talking , just the songs so was a bit hit and miss. Sometimes you really wanted the whole intro of a particular song..let's say Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls, but the man would insist on talking over it ...week after week, idiot, but overall it was a jolly good way to end the week.😄

Funny, I was in the loft last week and came across a load of them in a cassette tape case.

How many times did you rewind them tighter using a pencil after they started playing slow? ;)

The worst scenario was when your favourite song came on , you hit the record button just at the right time, and then your mam shouts through the door, 'yer teas out'!

Vinyl is like a piece of art, all other formats are inferior as collectibles. Surely streaming is the only alternative, due to ease and playability?
I think artists are selling them and people are buying them for the same reason. Artistic value. Collectors editions and the like.
I've got a few Eminem albums on cassette. Sealed and pristine. Got nothing to play them on so hopefully the prices will continue to rise. For example 👇🏼

£160!

Brings back memories of going into Richer Sounds in Leeds as a student as they were the only place that sold That's metal cassettes that I used for my favourite recordings. For more run of the mill stuff I prefered TDK AD-90s.

Probably something to do with the delays at pressing plants as the vinyl revival continues, plus perhaps artists wanting listeners to listen to the full album rather than skipping tracks which you can only really do with vinyl and cassettes.

Richer Sounds sell tape decks to go with your your other seperates.

Vintage HiFi in the old Shakespeare on Linthorpe Road have a load of stuff.

It's not a particularly recent trend. A lot of small labels issue stuff on cassette - cheap and easy to produce and distribute, including the scope to include some very individual and elaborate packaging, also without an excessive financial hit for small runs.

As for quality, it relies on decent quality tapes in good condition being played on a hifi quality deck as part of a good system. Get that and I'm not convinced the quality is that inferior - it has the analogue warmth that a lot of people crave regardless of what the know-it-all bitrate bores might tell you. I pulled out a load of old tapes a few years back to check what was on them before having a clearout. Some were unlistenable, but the ones that had survived years gathering dust sounded great.

That said, I got rid of my tape deck last year, and lets be honest, all that seeking and rewinding is a pain in the **** whatever other good things you can say about them
