Carrick's substitutions

They would have overturned a 4 goal half time deficit for sure. You’re a genius.
I never said that, I said why not freshen things up, when you have players on the pitch looking mentally beaten. What is the point on keeping them on? At least make the second-half a bit more competitive. Do you understand genius?

I looked at it that when 4-0 at h/t he assumed the match had gone so why risk players not 100% like forss/ josh etc when you need them for the league

I suppose that was what he may have considered. On the other hand we don't have another game for 11 days and it was an opportunity for some match fitness. I realise we don't have the full information on the player's condition.

Not allowed to make constructive criticism? Might as well pack up being a fan if you can't give an opinion.
If you're not up with what's going on how can it be constructive?

We've faced a far better team than us, they should have beat us at the Riverside, we got lucky.

I could have a dig about the subs but there weren't many options open, let's be fair.

As previously mentioned he had some experienced options on the bench he chose not to use them, it's fair to ask why. So please try to be 'up with what's going on' yourself.

I agree we would probably have been beaten regardless of how he chose to utilise his substitutes. If he had used more of his substitutes earlier it may have only affected the margin of defeat and kept the scoreline more respectable, we'll never know now.

I'm just expressing an opinion that Carrick tends not to make many changes and does so later in games which has a lesser effect. Tonight being another example. I would describe that as constructive.

I dunno why people keep complaining about his substitutions really. What options do we have? Barely fit O'Brien, Coburn, McNair, Dijksteel, a backup goalkeeper and a bunch of kids who it would be ridiculous to throw on at 4-0 at Stamford Bridge, and I imagine Carrick knew that.
I think most Boro fans knew even before tonight’s game we were on a hiding to nothing. Just get over it.

If we're 1-0 down, we're doing OK so that requires 1 train of thought and one mindset to try to be compact, stick to the original plan as we're still in the game. If we're 2-0 down we need to be clever, keep it tight but also grab a goal at some point so another plan is required and would have seen another plan with the tactics/which subs and when they were introduced etc.

If we're 3,4,5 down then we need to think is it worth risking these players who may not be 100% on a game we've lost and we won't get back into when afterwards we have some down time to get fit, refocus and look at the league.

Why is Coburn on the bench?
