Carrick's substitutions

I realise as fans we don't have all the information on a player's condition, especially those returning from injuries. Also Carrick has Tuesday night's game to consider, but I think he leaves his substitutions too late again.

After half-time give it 15-20 mins and if we have not created any chances, change it. We didn't 'click' going forward until the last ten minutes, Coburn and Crooks should have been on a lot sooner.

Both coming back from injury, I suspect he’d hoped not to have to use either. That said Crooks played really well when he came on, and Josh totally changed the dynamic. He actually said he hadn’t wanted to bring Forss on full stop. Had we been 2 up I’m sure the subs would have been earlier and probably Gilbert and McCabe, but it just wasn’t that game today

I thought that it was worth taking off Clark for Coburn after they scored. We were never going to need two CBs after then.

4-0 down at half-time, some players looking mentally well beaten. Why not make a couple of changes at half-time and another couple on 60 mins. At least freshen it up, try to keep the second-half a bit more competitive.

I dunno why people keep complaining about his substitutions really. What options do we have? Barely fit O'Brien, Coburn, McNair, Dijksteel, a backup goalkeeper and a bunch of kids who it would be ridiculous to throw on at 4-0 at Stamford Bridge, and I imagine Carrick knew that.
I'm not saying throw on the kids at half-time but you mentioned four senior players. Why have them on the bench if they can't manage at least 30 to 45 mins?

For the worst case scenario. Like Forss at Rotherham, was unlikely to be intended to play as much of the game as he did, but needs must. Would be negligent to not at least have options to account for that.

Would’ve like to see Gilbert for a good 30 mins. Saw no point bring him for a few mins at the end.

Because we literally had no-one else.
I would have thought that Carrick would have weighed-up player fitness levels v the standard of opposition before naming his bench. I can't believe anybody on the bench couldn't have managed at least 30 mins. Dijksteel first game back from injury and he managed 45.

If he didn’t name those players the bench would have been half empty.

It was them or no-one.
