Carrick will turn this around

And I must admit I am also fed up with changing the manager every other season to start all over again. It's rinse repeat. Personally I want to allow a manager to learn from his errors, particularly one who managed us so well last season. He has bought half a season for me at the very least. I am confident by Christmas we will be going upwards in the table. It will take 20 games to get this team functioning.
He doesn't appear to be learning from his mistakes though. We're just trying the same thing over and over again, and swapping players about hoping something clicks. Its a dangerous game that will no doubt cost Carrick his job if things don't improve imminently, starting on Saturday.

The selections are a concern, suggests we don't know our best 11 yet which we definitely should by this stage of the season.

The fact we've "out xG'd" a fair few teams already gives me hope, although worryingly Owls beat us on xG on Tuesday.

The question is whether 7 league games is enough to write off Carrick as dispensable as many of you seem to be either saying or suggesting. I don’t think it is. It’s typical fan behaviour though and I’m not knocking it - that’s the way most fans are these days.

I haven't said that it is, and have said in various threads on here over the last 36 hours that I want Carrick to stay. I've seen a few posts on here and other social media calling for Carrick to go now though, but getting rid of him now is not the answer, as we are back to where we were this time last season, if not even further behind. However, we need a performance and a win on Saturday otherwise those voices will increase and eventually he will be relieved.

I wasn’t addressing you personally with that comment. It was a comment about the board mood generally.

I repeat 7 games is not enough to talk of sacking him but if we are rock bottom after 20 games then it is feasible to ask why things haven’t changed if you (fans in general not you specifically) believe this squad is better than bottom three.

We would ideally like to see some form of progress over the next 5 to 10 games - if we see that then the pressure will come off.

He said he is not for changing so what make anyone think things will improve over next 20 games we will just get closer to the black hole that is league 1.

I think I clearly stated why I think things will improve further up the thread

I think there are two "Carrick out" camps.

The first, who definitely want him out now, are still sore that we're not challenging for promotion and feel we should be. Compared to their current expectations he is a complete disaster and they've seen enough. It's unlikely (although not impossible) we're going to trouble the top 6 this year.

The second group are probably a bit more on the fence, depending on how nervous they are. They're not that bothered about promotion this year, but are bothered about relegation. It's very early days of course, but runs like this are hard to endure and it's hard to see an end to it. The longer it goes on, the more fans in this group will want him gone.

Giving him time is absolutely fine. But he still needs to earn that time to an extent. That means an improvement in performances and results. He doesn't need to go on a 10 match winning streak, but he does need to win some matches and soon.

The longer you let the run continue, the greater the chances are of going down. I think we're still some way off yet reaching a tipping point, but there is one. Unless people are happy to let him take us down if that's where it's headed?

I know this is perception bias, but often feels like we're one of the unluckiest clubs in the league. Mowbray, Warnock, Wilder, Carrick...... all really promising starts, things look positive followed almost overnight by absolutely shocking runs of form (that often seem to be triggered by runs of games where we play well, miss loads of chances and confidence just drains away). Does this happen that often to other clubs? Getting fed up with it.
