Carrick - first impressions

Confidence and togetherness make a huge difference and I think we've been lacking that. I see small signs that both are returning. I also think the younger players will be able to relate to and respect Carrick much more so than 'old school' Wilder.

He's been at one of the top teams of the past 20 years so may be able to bring a bit of the Brian Robson factor
He was also the best player in his position in England for almost a decade.

He was a world class player as to hear some people on here you’d think he was just an average player at Man U, he wasn’t.

I’m also impressed with MC and his composure and clarity which shows an inner belief and confidence which you need if you want to stay at Man U for 20years!

I thought we looked fragile last night but there are green shoots emerging such as Chuba, hackney, lenihan and dael partnership….everyone grafting. Agree with others that MC comes across as a humble lad, not arrogant but confident.
We also need a lucky manager (who makes his own luck) and interestingly MC has joined us just as we are playing a few winnable games which is key in building confidence and belief.
Preston, hull, Bristol & Blackpool….all winnable and if we stay unbeaten I think we could go into the Norwich final game before the break with quiet confidence in ourselves and perhaps make a few teams sit up and take notice….
We’ll see but last night was important and the journey now begins…

Still feels too early to give an opinion really. Good win last but not a great performance in my opinion.

Think we'll be able to make more of a fairer judgement after the Bristol City game. A win and a good performance and I'll begin to feel optimistic that he may be the man to turn things around.

I have to say based on last night's performance that our tackling is so much better than under Wilder. Now, that maybe down to Leo's coaching and just getting the team to do the basics better, but we certainly look a better outfit.

As a person I've warmed to him, he's bright, humble and articulate.

I think he's someone the players will really buy into and respect, far more than Wildr, who I think knew he was only here short term and hence damaged a few relationships with players.

But ultimately it's about results of course and so far it's been a modest start I think, with some obvious green shoots.

I'm interested to see how much we raise our game for a top side though.

A win and a good performance on Saturday would be a wonderful bonus - i'd settle for decent spells of good play but a scrappy 1-0 win and belief growing in MC's approach with the players. We certainly need a win with Blackpool away and then Norwich away before the break...if we do win on Saturday i'd feel very confident about the Blackpool game - even if we play well and draw on Saturday i'll feel confident about Blackpool away.
If we go undefeated into the Norwich away game I think real belief will start to emerge and i'd fancy us to really play our part vs Norwich away ; whether we could get a win is a bit of a stretch but giving a good account of ourselves would be excellent....
