Carrick coached that today

His senior pros were barlaser , Howson and fry .
That's it .. the rest might have 200 starts between the eight of them at this level.
Add Jones in who was super disciplined.
The four up top grafted harder than I've seen all year, all taking turns to press 100.
Add in crooks and coburn playing on one legs when asked,
It's hard not to love this squad

Think we were far more fluid in attack without Crooks. Massive didfrrrnce and overall probably best performance of the season for me.
Some great performances as you say. Probably best game of season for barkaser, Fry & Engel.
Thought Dijksteel looked good second half and Van Der Berg could be some find.
Hopefully keep this up for another week or so during a tricky run of games where we should be picking up points.

Yeah, agree with that, will be interesting to see if Crooks plays deeper on Tuesday if Barlaser is out.

It was a very inspiring watch ... we could easily have had 5 .... Barlaser had his best game for the club and Jones was very good as well . He really needs to stop kicking the ball away when he gives a foul away .. did it a couple of times yesterday and I felt he was on the verge of another daft booking . Rav is top notch for a teenager ,, A very controlled and committed performance .

I think a manager would say it was excellent game management from the players as well as the tactics.

I really enjoyed watching us regain possession and the way we moved with such assurance at the back: we usually look like we can drop one or two clangers per game for the opposition to take advantage of, but we dished up nothing for West Brom.

Excellent work, especially when you look at how much of a ‘rag tag’ unproven bunch that have come together to be within touching distance of the playoffs;

Glover - freebe only ever played in the a league
Dijksteel - bought cheap from league 1 and has hardly played in over a year
Van Den Berg - 19 year old first season in England
Engel - bought relatively cheap from the team who finished 3rd bottom in Denmark and was written off by most after his first few games
Barlaser - bought cheap from Rotherham, never played higher than their level
Rogers - Bought cheap, only 21, never been outstanding in his career so far, again written off by most after his first handful of games
Jones - bought a cheap from non league, has had great spells but last year was in really poor form and couldn’t get in the team
Greenwood - last minute loan, unwanted from another team in the same division, again only 21
Silvera - bought cheap, only just turned 23, played nearly all his football in the a league and again written off by most after his first handful of games.

Credit to all the players and coaching staff. This is one of the first set ups I can remember that consistently improves players.

Crooks has been one of our best performers so it'd be harsh to say we looked better without him based on what was admittedly a really good performance.
Despite all our attacking fluidity, we did fall short when it came to finishing off the chances.
What yesterday does serve to show though is that we potentially have another plan when things need changing.
We need a lot more of the squad to get fit quick if we are to push on as it'll give us more options to utilise formations like yesterday.
A few players certainly changed a few opinions on Saturday, that's for sure.

What yesterday goes to show, is how ridiculous people become after a defeat.

Guaranteed the next time we lose a game 5-6 of yesterday’s top performers will all of a sudden be labelled league one level players at best.

It’s encouraging to see some of the players earlier in the season who looked well off the level, starting to have a positive effect on games.

Like I’ve said numerous times in recent weeks. Our transfer strategy means we aren’t buying ready made top level players. Untapped potential of course, but we will have to live with some of those players being inconsistent from time to time.

Carrick knows what he’s doing. Even if it doesn’t quite happen this season, it can only provide us with a decent platform for a push next year. There’s a still a long way to go though. I still fancy us to nick a place in the top 6.

Carrick just continues to show what a class act he is. Certainly been tested this season, having to turn round and shocking run of results and then handle a ridiculous injury crisis. Keeps passing these tests.

Going to be a top top manager. Never panics, never blames others.

More than one of our previous managers in recent seasons would've written this season off a long time ago. "nothing I can do, players aren't good enough, recruitment not good enough, injuries have made it impossible" etc.

He's put quite a few older, more experienced, managers to shame with how he's handled everything.

If we don't go up this year, he needs backing properly in the summer. He'll get us up.

He was backed properly this summer and had said so over and over again.

This period of injuries to the established players has seen the bedding in and emergence of some serious talent like Barlaser, Van den Berg and Rogers. Sometimes players just need a run in the team. Engel also seems to be improving rapidly and his strong accurate forward first time passing is a real strength.

People are impatient, but I would bet some of those that write off players after a defeat are also those that have posted "Why can't we be more like Brentford\Brighton\Norwich etc". The thing is we are doing that - playing a set style of football and scouring far and wide for good value players that havent fulfilled their potential yet. It will take time and we will have off days, but just get behind the players - give them an environment they can develop in.

Look over any of my previous posts. I don't have a problem with our recruitment.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't also be backing him this summer coming.

Should be in a good position. We needed a lot in last summer. Should be able to focus a bit more on proven quality over quantity now we have good squad depth.

I think getting Barlaser to drop deep in between the two centre backs to start attacks for us has been a master stroke from Carrick… rather than relying on Fry or McNair / VDB to try and pick a pass into the midfield to get us going, which often led to problems of our own making!

You can see why the top teams pay big money for genuine ball playing CBs
