Carrick’s pre Norwich press conference

interesting to judge the mood today ... been very upbeat since he came as all positive news... bit of a slump 1 point from nine so need to turn the corner again ... sure he will be Mr Ice Cool as usual

Pretty level headed isn't he.. wasn't doing cartwheels and being all 'Wilder' when we won 8 out of 10.. don't think he'll be down in the dumps now after 1 point from 9.

Questions I'd like putting to him today;

1. Michael, individual errors are starting to creep back into the team, something that was rife early on in the season before your arrival. Is this a confidence of winning games thing, or is it something you can collectively/individually coach at Rockliffe?

2. In Boro's last 7 games you've kept 2 clean sheets, Dael Fry played at the back in both of them, which were a 4-0 win and a 5-0 win. Is him coming in and out of the team a choice you make dependent on the opposition, or is it what you see on the training pitches every day?

3. Boro have conceded 8 goals in the last 3 games, two of those games were against teams in the bottom half. You've had no problem scoring goals since you arrived, but how much emphasis do you put on defensive in your week structure and does anyone on your coaching team have the specific responsibility for the defensive side of the game, or is a collective responsibility?

4. Will all of the loan players in your squad be available for the Play-Offs if Boro are to qualify for them?

Can Rob ask in a constructive was what Dijksteel needs to do to get any minutes on the pitch to see if he could be better in the right back position? It's scary how teams are targeting that area over and over again.

The main one I'd want is a bit of elaboration on Fry's situation, beyond his current injury.

Was he dropped from the starting 11 through illness/injury before taking that knock or was it tactical?

Would like some clarity as to how Muniz is not worth a place as one of 7 substitutes, I personally don't think he's been given enough opportunity to prove himself and think he would be a good option

As I put on another thread we are not struggling to score goals without him - so if the manager prefers another 18 I think that's fair enough

I just think there's a player in there and whilst we definitely don't struggle for goals at times we look static up front and feel he would give the opposition a different problem to deal with up front.
I always like having more than one forward on the bench if we need to throw the kitchen sink at a game late on like the Steaua game when we ended up with about 4 forwards on

I can’t see Carrick giving much away on Dael. I imagine he knows opposition sides will base their game plan on his availability, these trends and breakdowns in how we defend (or don’t) in certain areas are bread and butter for analysts.

I do worry that if he’s out for the season we’ll struggle.

I thought when Watmore left he would just step into his bench spot to be honest, call me cynical I just feel there's more to it than Carrick not fancying him.

Totally agree, his injury is a massive worry,I also think Djksteel would add to our defensive solidity especially with his pace against the counter attacks

Tbh looking at the attacking positions available in our starting lineup and bench, unlike most of the time when Watmore was here Ramsey and Archer take up two spots in the matchday squad automatically for what they bring. Allied with that you also have McGree, Forss and Akpom that have to be included.

After the players that are needed or are likely to come on as a sub, Carrick sees it makes sense to include players who are owned by MFC for their development as opposed to developing players owned by other clubs. Which is where the likes of Crooks come into the equation usually. It's tough on Muniz granted as he's shown he can be a decent attacking option at this level, but it's just one of those things.

You can only have five loan players in the Matchday squad.

Ramsey, Archer, Steffen, Giles, Mowatt.

You would need to drop one of those. Unless one of them gets injured Muniz will not be in the squad

On Dael....

"We're not sure on that one, we're still doing a bit of work with Dael. Whether this one comes along at the wrong time for him, I don't know we'll have to see on that one, but I don't know".
