So, it's been a great week for cars in our household. First daughter finds out she has been driving with no insurance for a month. Gets sorted, eventually , then horrible grinding noise starts coming from the brakes.
Pads? Discs? Dunno, so booked it online with the local Halfords to sort. Pads £130, pads and discs £279. Paid for the pads, kept fingers crossed
Called a couple of hours ago to say it needed new discs - we can fit them for £198. Told them to crack on, needed doing, I'll pay when I get there. But not happy at the price jump.
So phoned head office, they didn't have a clue why there was a discrepancy but agreed I should only pay for the quoted price (which I had email confirmation).
Garage called to say car was ready, explained the situation and was met with an "errrr.....well ....quote may have been for different discs" Okay, are the premium top quality discs £60 more expensive than the good one "errrr.....no. But it's .....errrrr......the online quote......errrrr". Told them I'd contacted head office and they quickly agreed to meet the quoted price.
What a load of bollox. Lucky I'd done a bit of homework beforehand and knew what I should be paying, otherwise would have been ripped off best part of £60. Not a huge amount by rip off garage prices, but the principal.
Robbing b*stards.
