Car Insurance?

I would try Bank of Scotland. They added my son to the policy and still managed to beat my existing insurer (who I'd been with for years) by around £140

I've been with hastings for 9 years, each year it goes up by a couple of quid, this year they have put it up by £160. Robbing b***ds

If you are looking to change insurers you should do it about 4 weeks before renewal. Your premium changes based on renewal date. In the last week it climbs very steeply.

Depending on when you need to renew, if it's not for a couple of months leave it another few weeks and check on comparison sites again.
I played that game and renewed last month, only to find a cheaper quote two weeks later. 😡. Admittedly it was £50 difference so I could not be pestered cancelling and changing.

I can’t help but be sceptical with car insurance. I’ve only had my personal car for the last three years and first year was £450 with Hastings, second year they wanted £650ish so I left for AXA (£450) that renewal was £748. So third year is now with Hastings for £470…

Why couldn’t Hastings just do circa £450 in year two ?
Makes no sense how they work it out.

P.s always fully comp with business miles and always same excess

My wife pays a £900/year. We don't have a flash car (though it isn't old) and don't live in a super exclusive fancy area. I tried to get it down but it wouldn't budge. It has never been below £650 in the past. She's had no recent accidents either.
You'd be shocked how bad our area/postcode is.

For a laugh, daughter got an online quote for her at her boyfriends house in Offerton. £350-400 cheaper .......😳😳

Jesus. I just don’t get it.

Mind you I do know people who pay less than my wife even round here.

Just been out with the Mrs to get her a new car. The yiung lad at the dealer has been trying to get a quote for his private car. He has some no claims from his works car. His quote today was £4000. 😲😲

We have a 16 plate S1 Beemer and a 23 Citroen C5 Electric, both are due for renewal next month, last year for them both cost me £590, I suspect they will be over £1k on renewal, we have over 25 years of no claims. I'll still be shopping about.

Insurance must be the only business that charges you for using their service then punishes you for using it. (Not counting life insurance of course)

Tesco club card used to get you more money off at one point than what you were quoted on a comparison site if you clicked through on them...don't know if it still works

Mine is £321 - it used to be around £220 for many years. Comaparison sites are usually the best to find the best deals

But look at the cost of new cars on the road now - not much below £20k - £321 as a % of £20k is not a lot.

I was with AA, i got a quote which had something like a 50% increase and sent with a nice email saying they're happy to confirm my new quote and it'll automatically renew.

I did some shopping online and got quotes on the comparison sites for roughly 5-10% less than what i was already paying.

I rang AA and the bloke who answered and immediately he got my renewal down, it was still above what i was paying but i said no i've got x,y,z on comparison sites and he went away again and came back with a figure slightly higher than the quotes i had found, we're talking 2-3quid a month more, so i agreed to go with that rather than the hassle of messing about moving providers.

I asked why it took a phone call to get this price, if this price is available to me by ringing up why the higher original renewal quote and was given some nonsense about its a quote given at the time of the email (the day before my phone call!) and by ringing up they can give a real-time quote, sounds like absolute nonsense and just a way to rip people off because i'd love to know the % of people who just accept the rise when everything is going up.

So in short, give them a ring and whinge.

I always refuse to renew with them as a point of principal, in those circumstances. You could give me your best deal but choose to try and rip me off and a few quid is better in my pocket. I don’t see any hassle in moving, biggest hassle is contacting them to cancel auto renew
