Can anyone Recommend a new laptop

Hi, can anyone recommend me a laptop?

My Mac Book Pro is not recognising the hard drive after my son changed the battery on it - it wouldn't charge and this all started at the start of lockdown. They have advised I take it into one of their shops but it is a little difficult during these times.

I need a computer to work from home on.

Thanks in advance.

If you are happy to go with Windows look for something running an AMD Ryzen 5 with an SSD and at least 8GB RAM

Lenovo V155-15API AMD Ryzen 5-3500U 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6 Inch Full HD Display Radeon Vega 8 Windows 10

AMD processors are better value than Intel equivalents which are in short supply, this is as powerful as an 8th gen Intel i5. Lenovo are decent enough. Under 500 squids (just), shop around though there may be decent alternatives, just posted to give you an idea of what to look for. In terms of real world performance it will run Office without breaking sweat and even stuff like Adobe Photoshop will be usable.

Thanks for this, I will take a look.

We use Dell laptops at work. Got a couple of new ones back end of last year. Out of the blue in February my colleague got an email saying there's a performance issue with the hard disk in his and that they were sending a replacement. Have found the customer service decent with them.
Actually digging a little further I found another Lenovo on Ebuyer running a 10th gen i5 for £50 less

Lenovo V15 Core i5 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6" Win10 Home Laptop

Bargain!

Ebuyer delivery service is still working well too as I've placed a couple of orders with them recently and not noticed any difference in delivery times.

In the comments on hotukdeals, whenever there is a computer mentioned as Free-DOS or no operating system etc. then someone usually says you can get Windows off eBay for a fiver. I don't know what that entails but I presume it means don't worry about not having Windows because you can just install Windows.

I don't know where you live, Norman, but there will almost certainly be a bloke who fixes issues like this fairly cheaply. If you're feeling up to it you can try these suggestions yourself mac not seeing hard drive If you don't fancy tackling it yourself try asking for recommendations in a local forum, e.g. Nextdoor Digest

Home Fix Computers on Stokesley Business Park were still working last I knew. I think you need to ring up and make an appointment to drop stuff off as people were parking up and beeping their horns before exchanges were made. http://www.homefixcomputers.com/contact.html. May be no use depending on where you live.
