Isn't that what Watmore does ?Looks like he’s got that bit of explosiveness and unpredictability about his game. Looks also that he could be frustrating at times but certainly worth it if he puts the ball in the net. Liked what I seen when he came on, starts next game for me.
Yeah he can do it too. I do prefer Watmore as a sub thoughIsn't that what Watmore does ?
I’ve seen your comments on Jones starting and I do think he could come back in either the next game or Blackpool game, maybe time for a bit of rotation with Crooks and Forss to be the ones rested. With Jones and Giles service could get 10 goals before the end of the season.
Quite like that idea. It's not as though playing on the wrong side would rob us of his crossing.Would be quite interesting to see Jones and Giles play on the same side at one point too. Would be no worries about Jones helping out defensively because for me that’s one of his biggest strengths. Could be a shout to give a him a go on the left wing, new position and chance to shine and make an impact.
I agree with this. His first game in that position away at Blackburn I felt like we lost a lot of movement up front. I would have preferred to see Crooks on the right and Forss up front.I don't think Crooks works as a striker.
He got the goals against Birmingham to ensure he kept his place in that position, but I don't think it's working particularly well overall, he lacks pace.
I'd sooner have an actual forward up front, Crooks can still score goals from the midfield when called upon.
It’s funny as it wasn’t working first half with homI don't think Crooks works as a striker.

We already do.Quite like that idea. It's not as though playing on the wrong side would rob us of his crossing.
I think we've got it in our heads that we should attack the same way down either side, but given that we could be playing Forss or even Archer on the right there's no need not to approach it differently.
Yeah, you're right - I think by "our" I probably meant the fans, hence the levels of disquiet when Jones can't deliver a cross like Beckham. There's lots of tinkering to be done, and I'd be loath for us to give up on Jones. We already do.
On the left McGree tucks in, in fact looks like has a fair amount of licence to roam, and Giles runs into the space.
On the right the wide player tends to hold his position more, although with Forss the expectation is for him get into the box more (a la Stuani).

He's not going to swing in tempting crosses like Giles does, but he'd support Giles defensively much more than McGree does, although I thought McGree looked a bit more combative yesterday. It's weird that with basically the same squad (plus Archer) that Wilder had where we seemed desperately short of options, there's now umpteen ways we could approach games.
He played on the left for Warnock, with Spence on the right. Not for long, but he seemed effective there.Would be quite interesting to see Jones and Giles play on the same side at one point too. You are joking, right?although I thought McGree looked a bit more combative yesterday.
It depends on your strengths as a player to be fair. Giles / Downing had quality in their delivery but not necessarily rapid top end pace. Beckham was another player like that, much higher standard, that goes without saying.Jones and Giles seem to try crossing in a different way. Giles tends to put it in early and aims for an area rather than a specific player. Jones seems to try and get to the byline and then pass it to a player directly, rather than just clipping it into a dangerous area.
I remember how Downing under McClaren was turned into the Giles method (not saying Giles is as good as Downing) and it worked well for him. Get it in early seemed to be the way to do it.
Is that what Carrick wants Jones to do and hence why he is not playing as big a role at the moment?
