Bye bye right to peaceful protest

If thousands of people want to protest in a noisey fashion, they will, the police could only arrest so many, they would be outnumbered instantly. This would end in tears for all involved.
And this is exactly what should happen. Whenever the common man wins a right, be it the right to vote, join a union or withdraw their labour, it becomes a generations long struggle to hold onto that right. The moment an agreement is reached and deal is struck then the wheels are put in motion to drag it back. Nothing is ever won permanently and when measures are taken purportedly for short term as in a pandemic or a war, those rights then have to be rewon.

When i left school, Uk licencing laws were draconian. Pubs could only open at 11am until 3pm and then from 5pm until 10:30pm. On Sundays it was (i think) 12am - 2pm and 7pm - 10pm. This was a temporary wartime measure that took decades to overturn.

Horrified by this.

Whoever voted for these delinquent power mad sociopaths I hope you are hanging your heads in shame.
They're not. This kind of thing is hardly a surprise following the past decade of tory government able and willing to regularly ride roughshod over anything standing in their way. I reckon a large part of the electorate would also happily give away rights and freedoms if it prevented another group of people from gaining a say in the direction the country is heading.

Hey @HarryVegas lockdowns are about saving lives and any legislation that comes after it and is Draconian in nature is in no way linked to it, smh.

At least labour are opposing this one (because they don't have the votes to make a shread of difference).
It's not like there weren't any warning signs.

😏

Freedoms removed piece by piece for our "benefit", corruption and cronyism rife yet apparently all worth it for just for Brexit.

It doesn't matter if you follow Labour, Lib Dems or Green parties policies or beliefs, all are a better alternative than this Tory party that's dangerously leading us down a dark path.

Just get them out!

I wondered how long it would take for Brexit to be mentioned - although I didn't think you would be the first (probably won't be the last though)

They'll get them all by using CCTV. Tories preparing themselves for the backlash when these 'sunset uplands' of Brexit don't appear and the country is on its backside.

Why pick up on just that point? The Tories were voted in with an 80 seat majority because of Brexit which is an undisputeable fact.

If you want to spin what I said into arguing about the merits of Brexit then go ahead but I won't be engaging in such a blatant deflection.

Corruption and cronyism are traits of the Conservative Party.
The Conservative Party were a single issue party for a number of years up to 2019 when it finally received a mandate.
It doesn't take a genius to work out what the single issue was.
Chris_Boro is quite rightly pointing out that the freedoms we are losing are as a consequence of those voting for a party that stood on a single issue.

It's a fair challenge remember those concerns rejected as Project Fear:

- We will have a border in the sea between N Ireland and Britain. WE HAVE
- Travel to, and homes in Europe will be harmed, IT HAS BEEN
- Transfer of goods between UK and EU will be harmed, IT HAS BEEN
- Your human rights will be whittled away THIS IS THE START OF IT, it'll be workers rights next

It's just another truism, could this law change have been applied without a challenge in the european courts? I'm no legal expert, but I suspect not.

I owe you an apology Chris _Boro - I didn't take Billyuk_69 earlier post and veiled references into account.

I picked up on the point as it insinuates that those who voted to Leave also voted for the Tories and therefore , by association, agrees with this proposed bill

I'm not spinning anything but if you're going to post opinions expect to get a response - I think making Brexit a reason for this proposed bill is blatant deflection
