Burnley and Sheffield United

I also think our Brentford/Brighton business model has to be the way forward.
They have very different business models but interestingly both did kick around in the top half / playoffs of the Championship for a few seasons before getting promoted.

Agreed, thought there was very little between Sheff Utd, Luton, Coventry and Ourselves. Burnley were streets ahead though, at least in performances.
I didn't actually watch that much of Burnley last season but from what I did see that Tella cutting in and belting shots into the top corner seemed to account for a lot of their succes.

He is a massive loss for them this season.

It's certainly a lot more enjoyable as a fan challenging towards the top of the championship than struggling near the bottom of the premiership.
But there's always hope of resestablishing ourselves in the prem.
If Brighton can do it...
I think part of the reason it’s more enjoyable is the chasing the dream aspect though. If it wasn’t for the prospect of promotion, we would just be challenging every year in a second rate league. Not sure that would be so much fun.

As is Maatsen at left back, possibly even more so than Tella. They've basically lost their left hand side, which was the best in the Championship.

Harwood Bellis is another loss and they had to spend £13m to keep Bayer, the 4th of last season's loan signings. So they were £13m out of pocket and lost 3 first team loan players worth c.£60m before they even started to prepare for this season.

True but seeing your team winning on a regular basis, at any level, is fun.

Burnley spent £90m and significantly not a single signing was playing in the Prem the previous season (Sander Berg obvs has prem experience) They also transferred out a shed load of players.
I don't know enough about Burnley's dealings. Transfermarkt has their squad market value at around E250m which makes them 18th in the Prem. Not far off Wolves and Fulham. I think most people thought at the start of the season that they would stay up reasonably comfortably. Looking in more detail, their transfers look on a par with Bournemouth's last season. It was a real surprise that Bournemouth stayed up.

They do have a reasonable degree of Premier league experience in team. I think it's just that Kompany hasn't yet figured out how to survive in the Premier league. I reckon he will but he he will need to string together some results before Christmas or I can see him getting the boot.

I suspect that the styles of VK, and indeed Pep at City, work very well if you already have better players than the opposition. It may be the best way of maximising that advantage.
However, I don't think that style necessarily improves players or a team. I suspect you're better oof scrapping a bit if the opposition is technically superior to you to start with.

We don’t have enough money to maintain premier league football anymore. Pretty much every club who maintains premier league football needs a big billionaire owner. That said. There is always hope with carrick.

Can't imagine Carrick changing his principles if we did go up but I could be wrong. He did against Leicester and it worked a treat.

Sheff Utd were on the brink of Admin before they went up.
Burnley’s American owner has taken out big loans since he took over.
Basically both “doing a Norwich” but worse.
If we went up… would it change the model we are on?
