Bullets Dodged by Boro

Surely it's got to be that Payero lad we signed from Argentina a few years back. Remember, we ended up giving him back to his former team for buttons. 6 months later he went to Atletico Madrid for £55 million plus add ons, and even though he played every minute of every match as they romped to the La Liga title, winning player of the year in the process, as I sit here now in June 2023, he still hasn't scored a single goal!! Have to laugh at Chelsea bidding £100 million for him!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

BULLET.
DODGED.

Not sure we entirely dodged that one.

Definitely winged us, don't think that loan fee was cheap! (But definitely the right move to get out of the full transfer).
I don't think it was even classed as a loan fee. Somehow we managed to wriggle out of a full-on transfer which STILL cost us north of a £million!!!

Jota from Brentford was another £4.5m we managed to avoid getting turned over for.

Nigel Callaghan
A good shout - and one of Colin Henderson's better decisions in preventing Bruce Rioch hemorrhaging £500 grand on a player, who by the time we were sniffing, had fallen from grace massively. It also pretty much put the final nail in Rioch's coffin too.

Alan Smith when he left Man U. Southgate was desperate for him 6 Million
& the 5 year contract at £60k a week that would've been nearly £16m in wages on top. He made 94 appearances (0 goals) so it is equivalent to £230k an appearance.

It was reported that in the final year of his contract Newcastle were paying him £58k a week while MK Dons paid just the £2k, when he was on a half season loan there.
