Bullets Dodged by Boro

The 'one other'.
Jonjo Shelvey would have been decent mind.
Not sure if we had to sign them as a package. Like Morris & Whyte. Or Emerson & Fabio.

17 goals in 98 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United. That is 17 goals in a team that created numerous chances for their strikers.

I think it works out at 1 goal every 5.7 games.

How many of those were sub appearances though? And how often did he get a run in the side?

I always thought he'd have been an excellent player for us. Would have been the main man rather than 4th? choice and under much less pressure. Think he showed across his career as a whole he was a top drawer striker.

Sometimes joining the bigger side isn't always the best move. Ziege and Zenden immediately spring to mind.

Maybe so, and then we'd have been stuck with their big contracts. Overall, we would have been worse off for signing them.
I'm not so sure, they might have had enough to get us back up, I'm 50/50 on it.

We did need to spend money to stay up mind, but we didn't.

Muzzy Izzet and Sean Davis.

McClaren was after them for what felt like months, maybe even years. Izzet’s £6m deal was agreed only for him to pull out at the last minute, then sign for Birmingham and go off the boil completely. Davis was a top target and was agreed a couple of times, apparently, but changed his mind and they got injured, never able to become the player he’d been for Fulham. I think he had a long spell at Portsmouth but never hit the heights.

Steve Sidwell.

I'm sure would've been "ok" but for the money being talked about would've been nowhere near worth it.

Bit like George Saville probably.

Forlan is a strange one. He just could not score for Man Utd, and it obviously started to affect him. The pressure here would not have been the same, so perhaps even in a worse team he would have settled in faster / better or not felt such pressure - in short we may have been a better fit for him. His career everywhere else was highly impressive, and he seemed to still seemed to turn up in the Urugauy world cup squad long after everyone had forgotten he existed.

Wasn't he on the verge of signing but some medical problem became apparent?
Yeah think he was crocked, and maybe failed a medical. Think he ended up in the Leeds treatment room for a couple of years on £40k/week. That was 20 odd years ago,.

Did a bit of digging and found this where he confirms he failed a medical at Boro
