Bulldozing Stockton High Street

Something has to be done but i am not sure a green wedge is the answer. Yes it could be good for events but at other times i think it become a bit of a no go area like so many other parks within cities where drug use and anti social behaviour is common. The council should be applauded for at least trying something original. Its so sad to see a town i remember as bustling market town in the 70s decline so much.

I haven't looked recently but on the picturestockton site there has been loads over the years.

I can't really remember it before Castlegate but if they had left it as it was, it would be something like a bigger version of Yarm
As a kid, I used to love going to Clinkards at the corner of Silver Street, as I got to go to the bottom of the street and watch the ships being loaded and unloaded on the docks.

It's about time for another radical development of the High Street. We had the Castlegate in the 60s; it was the other side of the River and numerous micro developments off the High Street in the 80s. The 00s were knocking down the Tab, creating the Wellington Arcade and re-doing all the road system. Now we're building a park on the High Street. It does feel like one daft scheme after another. I look forward to seeing what the councillors of the 2040s will have up their sleeve...
