British Grand Prix 🇬🇧

Honda will just bring out a “reliability” fix that also mysteriously increases horsepower! But in fairness no it’ll all be fine. Red bull are big enough to fix this, he was smart enough to crash pretty close to the factory. And there’s a two week turnaround before Hungary. If it had been a back to back weekend it would have been touch and go to get him medically cleared.
If that tweet is anything to go by he’s clearly taken quite a bump to the head
It did read like a concussion.

not so sure on the Pu, strictly controlled parts.

I do agree the last swap also had some nice “reliability” (with added power) upgrades

Yeah I once had a “reliability” upgrade on my car, which give me an extra 10 BHP!
My latest thought is that red bull are over reacting to this simply because it’s Lewis and it’s a Merc. If that had been LeClerc on the inside instead of Lewis there wouldn’t have been dramatic tweets from Max, Horner wouldn’t have whined after the race about putting guys in hospital. Everything red bull do from tweets to upgrades is specifically designed to unsettle Mercedes. No question about that. No issues with it, people do what they must to get a competitive edge. But let’s see it for what it is.

It’s funny Horner calls Lewis desperate, when he’s been acting desperate for seasons

He quite likes calling other drivers a pussy. He'll be shocked by this no doubt because we would have expected LH to back out like he has done previously. His Dutch fans on FB are apoplectic with rage. It's quite a funny read.
I think Hamilton is in his head now. He is used to being Mr Aggressive and not giving a hoot about anyones safety. It'll be very interesting to see if his attitude changes, he seem to be an act on impulse person, and if he enters the next GP angry it could go badly wrong.

Some good discussion here.

first glad Max seems to be ok, hopefully he is just a bit bruised.

I have a few thoughts, I wonder if this will have an impact on the next close situation. Will max yield and be a bit more cautious compared to normal.
His character is such that he will probably be more aggressive, but Hamilton won't yield now. It could be some other poor sap he takes out though

Definitely a done deal. They'd be crazy not to have him signed up already.

Although I did read a bonkers rumour that McLaren might be sniffing round him too.
I was listening to Ted Kravitz and Crofty talking. They dont think theres any chance of Russell getting the Mercedes drive. They won't do anything to destabilise the team and they felt it would create problems like they had with Rosberg. Lewis is really happy with Bottas. He is willing to play 2nd fiddle whereas Russell will go for broke.

I am exactly the same. Think it may of won me over today. I will certainly be tuning in again in 2 weeks time.
I’ve watched a couple episodes of Drive to Survive on Netflix tonight, feel more clued up in one day than I have after years of listening to my dad try to get me into it 😂

I like many gave F1 a miss last season simply because of the boring outcomes. However this season the F1 aficionados have made it more watchable but I still think we’ll get the same outcome— Mercedes wins. The cars need to be somehow evened up — perhaps we’ll get there.

I’m not sure how you come to the conclusion when red bull have a faster car.
As someone who has watched F1 a lot it’s too close to call but I really don’t think Mercedes have caught up enough with the silverstone upgrades. As we saw from the sprint race if Hamilton hadn’t got past Verstappen in the first lap he wouldn’t have got past him at all. And he would have destroyed his tyres trying. The fact they found it so difficult to catch up to a Ferrari shows they aren’t quite there. This was a bad day for red bull but I don’t think you can take anything from that. Perez destroyed has weekend with the spin in the sprint race and Max would have won if he hadn’t crashed in to Lewis. The car is a winner. The drivers let them down this weekend

Martin Brundle says “have all your sweeties in one go” when talking about preserving the car etc. Do you think Red Bull are doing just that with their engines and batteries etc? And that reliability will catch up with them later in the season?

It's going to be interesting in the next race when/if Max & Lewis line up on the grid as 1&2 again.

I think Max is going to be even more aggressive now...if that's even possible.

The upcoming Belgian and Dutch GPs will be very spicy. Red Bull's social media team will be in overdrive.

Yeah they are going to stoke the fire aren't they? It's actually a shame because Lewis was relishing the competition and the two drivers were getting on well until RB started it's mind games.

I'm not so sure. The "reliability" fix surely couldn't have been planned for if it was purely a reliability fix. It did seem to give them a huge boost and allowed them to dominate France and the Austrias. two tracks they probably didn't expect to beat Merc on so there may be something in that. Teams tend to try and pick the power unit changes to when they will have least impact.

Just had a thought to. Traditionally the Merc don't like a street circuit, and two of the cancelled races this year are street circuits. I wonder if that will play into their hands? Although I guess one of them isn't a "street circuit" in the traditional sense.

I think the facts are that if they didn't touch, Lewis comes out of that corner ahead, the penalty was very harsh on him.

I don't see how tbh.
They were practically side by side before the braking zone & approaching the apex, Verstappen was almost a car length ahead.
So even if he'd gone wider he'd carried more speed into the corner & would've been on the power earlier, and IIRC it is a left hander next.

I'm a big Lewis fan but thought it was an incredibly risky manoeuvre with a high chance of contact, he got lucky but it could so easily have been them both in the barriers.

It was aggressive no doubt, and he was punished, I believe harshly, in the race.

The while "You don't go down the inside at Copse" argument was pretty much disproven though, given he overtook both Norris and LeClerc at the same corner in the same race.

Max was obviously coming in hotter because he had the better line, no contact woul dmean Max would have had to accelerate later, ceding the corner to Hamilton.
