Brighton

An example of how fans quickly acclimatise to their surroundings.
Exactly. I pop on to other sites just to cheer myself up by reading the outpouring of negativity from fans of other clubs. It’s the same everywhere except maybe Ipswich at the moment. Great case - the Liverpool fans roasting their team after their defeat in the FA Cup to Man U

Good for the PL seeing the likes of Brighton and Brentford competing.

However, as correctly pointed out, one bad managerial appointment or a few signings that don't come off/injury crisis......the downward spiral can be brutally quick. £200m in the bank in February with your club hurtling down the league isn't going to help.

Not wishing this on either club btw - reserve that for the Chelsea's/West Hams 👍

Bar the 6 who have a 100% prem record, every teams time has come at some point and the wheels fall off, a lot of the time it’s as much getting the manager wrong as poor player recruitment, so will be interesting to see what happens at Brighton as they seem to be a lot more organised with their analysis when recruiting both players and managers
The owners of Brighton and Brentford made millions from their first business venture together.

I think they met at university, but some time ago had a very acrimonious parting of the ways.

Not surprisingly their business model was based on complex analysis, a feature which has been applied to both clubs.

The difference is though Brighton and Brentford have access to a lot of data and analysis rather than just spotting a few gems in the rough grass. If they do get relegated they'll still have that

Everyone has access to the same data, and arguably the same analysis, it's what they do with the data that's the differentiator.

I actually think Brighton have another level to reach before the inevitable ‘tailing off’ period begins. I know Brighton plan well in advance for managerial appointments but D’Zerbi in particular strikes me as the sort who was never likely to hang around. If we can see that from here then Brighton, being so thorough, will have known it long before anyone else and will have been lining up the next manager for ages. I can see them pulling off another brilliant appointment from left-field this summer.

I’d also say that their most prized assets this time around won’t be picked off for at least another year. Ferguson’s goal drought and Mitoma’s injury means they could quite probably keep them for another year. And then the players signed over the last two years are all further on with their development. Players like Adringa and Baleba(sp) are the next two to watch.

I can see them pushing the Champions League places next season. I don’t think they’re finished yet tbh.

I'm sure there model is signing players not for the current season but for the next. The fact that some of the players have adapted to the league so quickly is a massive testament to their recruitment.

They've also got the last 2 managerial appointments spot on. It really wouldn't surprise me if De Zerbi went onto pastures new and Potter slotted back in. Brighton got 16m in compensation from Chelsea to get him and now can pluck him for nothing, if he moves again (say England if Southgate goes and Potter is doing a good job) Brighton again get compensation for him, I mean the cash generation is insane.

I agree with the Southampton comparison, however they did sell up and went in a different direction strategically under new ownership (albeit not a very good one) but I don't see that happening with Brighton.

It’s a bit of an accident that Everton are on that list (and they might not be for much longer). It could just as easily have been Villa or Newcastle who managed to be the turd that wouldn’t flush a few times. The other five have never even flirted with it.
