Brentford's Lap of Honour

Think you have to start a mindset change about watching and sharing experiences at sport in Uk. If it all goes right we shouldn’t feel “embarrassed” to celebrate big and neither should the players. Live in the moment. It doesn’t happen very often.

If Boro were to beat Man U four nowt in the PL I'd expect a lap of honour then for it to head out into the Town down Linthorpe Road, ending with a ceremony at the Town Hall where Gibbo is formally inaugurated as 'Lord Parmo'.

We should do this regardless.

I can't blame the fans for being excited. For most of their lives, Brentford fan would have dreamed of playing Man U, let alone beating them, let alone beating them 4-0.

Given that celebratory mood, I can't blame the players for responding.

Football is for enjoying; they should seize the moment. The alternative is a stern-faced, joyless approach to football when fans greet each goal with a silent but collective nod to acknowledge a job well done whenever a goal is scored. Players would shake hands and line up for the re-start.

Ah! The good old days.

Well IMO the only cringy thing is your determination to deny Brentford the chance to enjoy celebrating a victory that most will never have experienced in their lifetimes, but they’ll still be talking about it 20 years from now.

I remember beating Lazio in our first UEFA Cup season and partying the night away in celebration - yet that was just a group game against a moderately successful Italian side. 🤷🏼‍♂️
And then singing "🎵 Boro beat Lazio....." during the next few league games. That was a bit embarrassing tbh.

Never for one moment got "annoyed" at it. A full scale lap of honour - imo - was cringey. Brentford are - imo - a good PL team so do they need to do it like a Conference team beating a PL team in the 3rd round of the cup?
I'm happy for the club and their fans - can't remember us doing this when we beat a title winning Man U team 4-1 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
When we beat Leeds 4-1 in 1992 (3rd game of the season), there was a pitch invasion celebration and the club released a VHS of the match within a week.
