Boro release 10 youth players

Wing is okay, I do think he lacks a footballing brain in some elements of his game. I wouldn’t be adverse to selling him.

He is a goal source from outside the box though
Gaz - he does sometimes appear to have a blind-side to his game at times.
I wonder if thats why he was late coming into the pro game?
His free kickc and shots outside the box can be devastating, but he sometimes buzzes around without moving the play forward.
Perhaps the Gaffa will bring his game on?

Made some important clearances on Saturday, one excellent one to Assombalonga on the half way line. Also, helped close the game down with nice interplay with Spence and Tav.

No way would a player sign because Woodgate tried to recruite them.

Just like no player signed because of Bryan Robson, they signed for ££ but could hardly say 'never heard of Middlesbrough but the contract was 4 times what i was being offered by x', back then we could blow other teams out of the water financially. Looking back we should have done more with it; for instance look at Blackburn winning the title.

I had this discussion on here recently. As if Rav signed because Bryan Robson was our manager. We made him the highest paid player in the PL at a time when he couldn’t get a start for Italy.

Ye could be that, maybe lacking the youth training some others have. Hopefully Warnock can bring him on. If we get offered decent money I don’t think he’ll be that hard to replace

Got to be firm and decisive on those left with a year or less on their contracts. Sign a new one or leave and leave now. No running down a contract. I think the type of characters we have they will do exactly that.
Fortunately we now have an even bigger character in NW who won't let it happen.

I think that's it. He doesn't have the grounding in the basics that players who come through an academy will get. Particularly on the tactical side of things. Doesn't mean he can't learn them still but he's a few years behind.

25, but I'm terms of football experience/development probably more like a 20/21 year old.

Warnock should be far better for him than Woodgate, think he needs an experienced manager. But worth persisting with, as he's capable of things many other midfielders at this level aren't. Just needs to work on the basics a bit.

Surely with all of our players coming up to the last year of their contracts we will be offering them substantially less money than they are currently earning or would earn elsewhere. For the unambitious ones why would they agree to be hustled out of the club when they can have another year on close to 1 million pounds?

Which is hard to work out when he came from the northern league where you get no space on the ball at all in the first third of the pitch.

On wing though whilst listing his negative points ( which I completely agree with) but a positive about him coming from non league is that he still has that shoot on site mind set , if he was academy based he would probably look to keep the ball and not shoot nowhere near as much as he naturally does. I think he’s a good weapon to have especially on the bench as he does have goals in him. I would probably persist with him for 1 more year to see if
He can do better in and out of possession and if not then maybe one to move on

Bit like women - you have to let them think its their idea

Is he 25? Wow! Honestly didn't realise!

Every club has had these problems with players running down contracts and leaving on a free. Notably Thierry Henry (I think) and Sol Campbell (Im sure) .
People who draw up contracts have to come up with clauses to try and stop it. It leaves the clubs too vulnerable. Specially now some players could be worth 100 Mill+

I don't know how but maybe applying lower wages in the final year of the contract ? Getting someone to sign that isn't going to be easy.

I don't think that you can stop this. I have always thought that no matter how passionate / loyal a footballer is to his club, it will always be his job. Just like me no matter how much I liked a job if I was offered another where I thought I was going to improve my lot in life, I would leave and my old employer didn't get any compensation to replace me (or pay for the party celebrating my leaving).

Look at Gestede, the Boro had no intention of offering him a new contract but as fans we see him as being disloyal.

I have in the past signed a non-competition clause where I am not allowed to be employed by a direct competitor for a period of 12 months after leaving said employer.
So in football a club in the same league. But football is not a real job is it. So no chance

why shouldnt a footballer run down his contract - his sold his labour at a fixed price, as determined in the contract and agreed by all parties.

he and his family have made decisions based on that income, just like we all do.

at the end of the contract if you get offered a deal (not always better finance) that suits your then circumstances at that football club or at another football club, its an easy option to take , stay or go.

I'm going going to stick my neck out and say you weren't on a fixed term contract but had to give notice to leave job

Well he really attracted some corkers in the summer in Browne Dijksteel and Bola
Were they really Woodgate's players? There seemed to be a big effort to distance Woody away from anything but coaching and picking the team. This was made clear from the start. Adrian Bevington was the man apparently and boro shifting him the back end of last year.

You are probably right. Either way, he shouldn’t of been given it big licks to the media saying they were part of his master plan as it’s come back to bite him on his ****.

To be fair he was saying everything was on him.. he wanted the pressure and the responsibility.
