Boro player of the Year (so far)

Hackney, Dieng or Jones for me
If you're talking about the season so far, as opposed to the calendar year so far, then the exact same three names are the ones that immediately sprang to my mind. Hackney definitely the pick of the three, then Dieng then Jones (Jones has only really come into the fray since Sheff Wed)

Think I'd go for Dieng (just).

The only player who you'd say has played well in every game.

Hackney looks a level above, but has had the odd sub par (by his own high standards) game and made the odd mistake, particularly off the ball. Although he looks like he's in the groove now.

I'd probably go for Hackney.

I think McGree has been great, but he's missed a few games too, so I'd put him behind Hackney and Dieng.

For me its between Dieng or Jones. Hackney started the first few games of the season off slowly.

Another vote for Hackney. Dieng no2. McGree no3,

Although McGree not played a huge amount he's score some important goals and was vital in those first couple of wins to change our fortunes.

I think we need to keep a low profile for the young Rolls Royce Hackney, our most outstanding academy talent for many a year. Jones also superb but let’s keep the pressure off him.

So well done Mr Dieng 👍

Dieng for me. The season only really got going after half time at Hillsborough and since then I’d say Hackney, McGree and Jones have been very good. But only Dieng has been performing across the whole piece IMO.

Dieng for me, he has had a lot to deal with in his short time here, the only nitpick I can recall (and it is nit picking) was relating to the poor pass back by Engel at WBA and a slight hmmm as to whether he may have done a little better having been sold out to start with. He is without doubt an upgrade on Steffen, and every keeper since Randolph to be fair (so far).
8.5/10.

Izzy comes second for me. Having bared his traumas of the previous 12 month to the world, he has shown mental fortitude of a kind one can only admire and respect. He has shown that he has recovered his fight, desire, shown terrific bouncebackability and has been a huge part in Boro’s recovery from our woeful start. He should be proud, as should his family, friends and us supporters.
8/10 (includes a point to reflect his fortitude).

I’d have Hackney and McGree joint third, both have had some small negatives especially early doors, but overall shown their value to the team as a whole with goals, creativity, movement, pressing and tenacity. Both make the team tick in differing ways and have a vision that is hard to define in terms of value to the team as a whole.
Both 7/10 so far, and I think will nudge up that figure a smidgen as the season progresses.

1. Dieng - consistently very good.
2. Hackney - some brilliance and really building momentum.
3. Jones - really coming into great form.

Crooks deserves a mention and McGree too.
