I knew someone would post this. I understand the sentiment but as a young lad I remember not being able to enjoy this much as we were getting schooled by a much better Newcastle side in a season that was turning sour very quickly. Anyway, just my own feelings on it.

Yes I do get that. As a teenager though who’d been brought up in an era where we gave the Geordies a regular pasting at Ayresome I vividly remember feeling particularly upset that they were proving themselves to be so much better than us in this particular match. And had done 8 months earlier in that match when Asprilla came on. When Big Mal swore.

We did get one on over them in the League Cup that season but I think that match at SJP felt like a turning point for the season in the league.
