Boro footballers who we never appreciated at the time.

Would also say mainly because of the way they left the club but yakubu and ziege were both excellent but aren't remembered fondly.

Derek Whyte was terrible, steve vickers was far better an underappreciated vickers was a top champo centreback, whyte was a league below. I dont think colin cooper got the plaudits second time around and he was superb.
Vickers had an amazing first few months in the PL in 1995. Tailed off after that.

One I'd throw in is Nemeth. He was never going to be as good as Juninho, Boksic, Carbone, Mendieta, Jimmy, Yakubu, Viduka or even Massimo, all of whom he competed with for a place upfront or wide right. But he was a bit of work horse and he always seemed to cause defences problems, wasn't a bad finisher and didn't seem to mind always being in and out of the side.

He was also consistently better than Job, Whelan, Ricketts and a few others in my opinion.

I suppose that comment about Middlesbrough lasses being ugly didn't help.

I rated Nemeth, a skilful little player. Think there wasn’t much between him, Job and Massimo.

All three of them were decent enough strikers and just unlucky to be here at a time we had an embarrasment of riches up front. JFH, Viduka, Yakubu and those three all at the club together, what a difference 17 years makes!! IIRC I think even Malcolm Christie was possibly still hear around that time and Michael Ricketts too.
