Great question. Does it include loan players that never actually played a game for us, such as Carl Saunders (92/93), Michael Agazzi (2014/15) etc

Ha. I was over 100% out.

I made a very basic guess at 5 per season for 40 years. I didn’t realise Pears was the first in 86. I thought they started a bit earlier.

Clearly we didn’t have 5 in a season very often until more recently.

Still, it’s an average of 3 per season since the first.

Stephen Pears was the 1st on the 5th November 1983 at home to Cardiff, he was MOTM & if I remember rightly the holagte were singing to sign him on at full time

Andy Crawford scored his one & only Boro game that day with Dave Currie scoring to give us a 2-0 lead

That day I got to the game just after kick off as I bought a two tone brown Vauxhall Chevet saloon from a bloke in Normandy

4 out of the 1st 6 loaned players were keepers
