Boro and Bristol City battling to sign Wigan midfielder Joe Williams

I don’t know too much about this lad but I trust Warnocks eye for a player after his time in the game. Bit disappointed we didn’t get Amos, he’s a defensive mid but is really good at keeping hold of the ball and he uses it well. It’s all good having a defensive mid that crunches into tackles but what’s the point if that’s all the do or they give the ball away or waste it when they get it.

Really hope we can get Murphy, Roberts and Gibson on loan. Think we are ok in central mid with Howson, Saville, Wing and McNair but we are one injury at CB from not having a defence and we’ve got almost no width or creativity.

Can't see close to that many coming in, we've managed 1 free signing with the season starting in 3 weeks.

I expect Browne and Bola will be reintegrated, plus Stubbs and Wood coming in.

Probably lucky to get 4 or 5 the way things are going.
 
Warnock said himself he expected 'a large turnover'. Four or Five won't make a dent in the squad. We need at least one striker, a winger, possibly two, an attacking midfielder, ideally two; a couple of central midfielders, another left back, at least one more centre back and a keeper. We saw what happened last season with scrimping and scraping; releasing players then not bringing in enough depth or quality.

We look reliant on loans and waiting for premiership teams to sort themselves out first. Agree we look wafer thin both in terms of depth and quality. Can’t imagine Warnock is happy. I’m not concerned about relegation with Warnock in charge though whatever squad he ends up with. Reckon we still need at least 5 or 6 with Friend going.

Despite the arrival of Hall, Boro are still in the market for at least another centre-back this summer – especially after George Friend’s move to Birmingham City.
It’s been well documented the Teessiders want to bring former captain Ben Gibson back to the club after the defender’s fallout with Burnley, yet wages and a transfer fee make the matter complicated.


Despite training with Boro for most of this year, Gibson, who has two years left on his contract at Turf Moor, has been linked with other clubs in recent months.
And according to the Sun’s Alan Nixon, Burnley are now trying to offload Gibson in a swap deal to sign Nottingham Forest centre-back Joe Worrall.
Worrall, 23, played all 46 league games for Forest last season and would want to know his first-team prospects before leaving the City Ground.

The Sun have also reported that Boro and Bristol City are ‘battling to sign’ Wigan midfielder Joe Williams in a £2.5m deal.
It’s been claimed City wanted to take the 23-year-old for less than his fixed fee but Boro have raised the bar.
