Boro accused of cheating today

The foul on Steffen when clearing the ball was a clear yellow card as were a few other of their tactical fouls which went unpunished, they were wasting time and breaking up play throughout the first half. I think we're relatively clean with regard to "shithousery" (perhaps bias tbf)
Couldn't believe Martin got away with the Steffen foul. Plenty of red cards have been given for kicking out like that

By letter of the law it is a sending off for violent conduct.

Kicking a keeper in the ankles while they have the ball in their hands is the equivalent of kicking someone off the ball because the ball is not their to be played.

A yellow card is the sensible answer.

I wouldn’t take too much notice of those QPR commentators. When the ball went out for a goal kick and Adomah put the ball down, they were saying the ref should have punished Steffen for moving it from where Adomah put it 🤷‍♂️🤣

I wasn't at the game today but was able to watch a stream with QPR commentary. I don't know the name of the commentator but his sidekick was Andy Sinton who was a decent player back in the day.

The commentator bemoaned the game being stopped when Hackney went down with a head injury in the first half. They talked about how an uncontested drop ball was frustrating after they may have nicked something from the goalmouth scramble when the corner came in.

Then, late in the second half when the ref blew up due to Barlaser going down with a head injury during another goalmouth scramble from a corner, they both blatantly accused Boro of doing this as a tactic to cheat and take the sting out of the situation.

Us Boro fans know that this isn't a tactic we use as it hasn't happened in previous games.

I can kind of see it from their viewpoint and I may have felt the same had the tables been turned but it's a strong accusation for a former pro to make.

Just sour grapes?
A drop ball does not have to be contested - the referee can drop the ball back into play without any player near to it. Dont often see it but thats how it is. UTB

Feigning injury. Claiming fouls that are not. Diving for pen's. Claiming a throwin that is not yours. Standing in front of the ball at a free kick to slow thigns down. Claiming corners that are goal kicks. Timewasting freekicks and goal kicks.

All teams do it. Football is far worse off for it, but if you dont then frankly you are mugs.

I missed the game, so dont know what went on today .

60 minute matches with ball-in-play stop clock,
independently timed so ref can focus on the play👍
Not sure that would work, the managers would find a way to stop the clock when it suited and it would probably end up like American Football where the last minute can take fifteen minutes.

The QPR commentary team's completely one sided point of view was only surpassed by their complete lack of knowledge. A tortuous listen.

I don't ever recall a footballer suffering a brain injury as a result of an onfield incident. Refs should not stop play when somone goes down holding their head because it's a an easy way to clear pressure on your goal. Or a cheating opportunity if you like.

Ryan Mason playing for Hull against Chelsea a few years back, had to quit playing because of it.

No, they can't and no, it isn't. Law 8 states quite unequivocally that if it's in the penalty area, "The ball is dropped for the defending team goalkeeper ..." and "In all other cases, the referee drops ball for one player of the team that last touched the ball ..."

Law 8 - The Start and Restart of Play

Lad from Darlington the other month ended up with a bleed on the brain… hasn’t kicked a ball since

Agree
We’ve had our share of divers and we’ve done our share of time wasting over the years.
People suggesting ‘we are different and have always been different are just being a bit silly.
Anyone remember Norwich away under Karanka when we hung on for a brilliant 1-0 away win. We ‘ran the clock’ 😂 down brilliantly.

Seriously! Just Google 'footballer serious head injury'. I'll start the ball rolling with Petr Cech and throw Iain Hume in for good measure.🙄

Concussions happen all the time.

Bamford was knocked out for us on the pitch in 2018.
I remember Marvin Emnes got knocked clean out for us a good few years ago.

As for as cheating, it’s really funny to see other fans views. A lot of comments on the Sheffield United forum complain about Millwall and their use of the dark arts, yet a few days ago to me it was clear they were trying to do a job on us, particularly when they had the lead.

Impossible to give an unbiased view but I’d say we are a low offender compared to most. We were much worse under karanka.

Jimenez for Wolves. Skull fracture and bleed on the brain not long ago.

Of course serious head injuries happen in football.
