Boro 5th Highest Wage Bill in Championship

"If Boro, who are understood to have the fifth-highest wage budget in the Championship, were in a position where they looked likely to challenge for promotion this season, Warnock's January demands might have carried more weight."
Gazette

Surprised at this. I thought we had got most of our big earner's off the wage bill?
I was kind of taking comfort in the fact that though results were mixed we had got our wages down to 'average' for the Championship.

Might be wrong. Perhaps this 'fifth' highest is slightly historical, based on previous years???
Surely the following Champo Clubs currently have a higher wage bill than us:
Sheff Utd
WBA
Bournemouth
Cardiff
Fulham
Stoke?
Reading?
Forest?

Dunno, but that's terrible English if that's from a journo!

But yeah, it's certainly possible we have that level of wage bill

Well it was reduced from £40m to about £31m last year from 2019. I don't think details are released until next month for recent finances and I would be surprised if it's anywhere near £31m this year.

Those sort of numbers are scary even if true-ish. Mitrovich on £4m a year, in the Championship, is ridiculous.

The money in players across the game is horrendous.

It might have been in 2019, but I would be very surprised we are 5th highest now

Fulham
WBA
Sheff Utd
Bournemouth
Cardiff
Huddersfield
Stoke
Swansea

All have been in the Premier League since Boro.

Troy Deeney is on £80k a week @ Brum and they outbid us for Friend.
Forest's wage bill was £31m last season
Blackburn outbid us for Ayala
Derby and QPR outbid us for players in recent seasons.

We also only have 23 senior players - 2 less than most other clubs.

Yes, there is absolutely no way we have the fifth highest....we might have had last season when we still had Fletcher, Britt, Akpom, Betinelli, Bolasie, Kebano, Roberts and Saville who were all on good money. I would think we might have higher wages than Reading this season, Sheff U and Cardiff depend on what they do with relegation clauses

yes Brum, Blackburn and QPR all have a lot of expensive players and decent sized squads. Derby have a tiny squad and some players signed this summer on very small wages for the championship.

I'd guess our wages are somewhere between 7th and 12th-ish

Those sort of numbers are scary even if true-ish. Mitrovich on £4m a year, in the Championship, is ridiculous.

The money in players across the game is horrendous.
If his goals get them back in the PL it'll be worth it and those wages will be covered in part by the parachute payment they're in receipt of.

So Mitrovic wages and fees in 3 1/2 years is about 45mill in total. No wonder they can't assemble a decent prem squad and keep getting relegated when he alone has cost them about 14mill amortised each season.

Superb player champ level, but is a millstone around their necks in the prem, because he doesn't really do it at that level and takes a good chunk of their wages.

What's wrong with it?

We’ve been cutting our cloth and slashing the wage bill for years and many managers - it must be Beryl in the canteen on 250k a week.

I think I'd be a bit cheesed off if I was Alex Hutchinson! What makes him £20 per week worse than EVERYBODY else?

PS. I presume these figures are someone's guesswork? (I can imagine Boro releasing the info).

Why dont you go to the site and follow their sources, then you can make your own mind up - without "guessing"?(y)
It's interesting looking at the list. I just doubt that it's totally accurate. I'll be astonished if after all the cost cutting that we've signed Sporar on £31k per week, even on loan.... but maybe we have. Who knows!

I`de be really concerned if the reported salaries of Darnell Fisher and Ameobi`s total over 16K week - over 850K per year!
Over-valued?!.
Stojanivic on 200K a year is also a waste.
There`s over 1M GBP`s for a start.
Crude figures - dont include bonuses, etc, but its mind blowing when you look at how many passengers we are carrying.
OK - players cant guarantee no long term injuries - but there are some there who are at the end of their careers and would be better off the books.
