Boris’s bubbles

Erm my partner works at a GP practice they aren't seeing patients for routine appointments.
My practice isn't seeing patients for routine appointments either.

Furthermore there's no mandate from government to change this either.. even if things are changing because of how caring the NHS staff are they aren't changing because they're being assisted and told to by government.

2 of the 3 things you asked why they weren't happening are happening*. I will defer to you on GPs but if it 's the same as hospitals they are told what they can't do but it is up to them to plan how to resume. Hospitals have been doing it. Although, GPs have been open. My daughter has been twice in the last couple of weeks for checks with the GP and vaccinations. A couple of my friends are GPs and have been working ordinary hours. In any case, it is up to their practice to be planning for the next stages so when the government announce it they are ready, unlike schools that seemed to be surprised they might have to go back. That's why some have coped well and others haven't opened at all.

* Consultants never stopped looking for cancers. They stopped screening which hopes to catch cancers in non-symptomatic patients but anyone that needed treatment has been getting it. They've had to reduce capacity etc. but hospitals haven't been closed.

Ye my partners practice work normal hours.. they just do phone appointments and have a special clinic once a week.

So the hospital's have been doing everything as normal? Ok chief if you believe that then I've no more to add because you're just apologising for Boris.

My practice has always been open and sent a text the other day advising that all patients need to wear a face mask. My partner has had to 2 appointments in recent weeks at her GP and is having surgery next week to remove a non cancerous lump from her shoulder/neck. Rang last week to confirm it.

I got put on insulin the day before lockdown. It’s base insulin which is long acting, my blood sugars are still high and I had telephone discussions with the clinic about a fast acting insulin to take at the time of meals. They have tinkered with my meds. It was impossible to conduct a phone appointment when I had blood sugar readings etc to give.

in the end I’ve just decided I’ll wait until things are more normal and I can meet some one face to face and hope I’m not doing any long term damage.

just before I get the it’s your fault for being fat Brigade, I’ve got LADA diabetes, I’m six foot tall and weigh 11stone, I’m fit and active.

Isn’t screening “looking for”?

Hope she recovers well Coops.
Glad she was able to get to the practice to get checked out.

It's not been all systems go, I really hope you're right and things are getting back to normal but to claim it's been pretty much normal is maddening.

Cheers Alvez

it’s at Tees Valley hospital which I wasn’t aware even existed until a couple of weeks ago

The irony is that it seems the government announce things after a significant minority possibly majority of people are already doing it ...

You can meet friends/family in the park - the reality is people have friends/family over in the garden
Then it's:
You can meet family/friends in your garden - the reality is people have people in the garden and then, let's have a cuppa inside it's getting cold
Then it's:
You can have a bubble of one blah blah - the reality will mean that people just visit who they want to visit and stay indoors with those people if they want.

The real questions are.. when will hospitals go back to normal? When will GPs start seeing patients again? When will consultants start looking for cancers again? Etc etc

It's just so reactive and it's unforgivable.

10 million people on NHS waiting lists by Xmas apparently.
The cultists will be wondering why come November.

I didn't say it was business as usual. I said plans are in place (and are already being implemented) to get back to business as usual (and what constitutes bau will have to be different to what it was). It won't be an overnight switch back on like it was switched off so it will steadily increase.

Isn’t screening “looking for”?

Yes, but it isn't the only method. Most are due to suspected symptoms in patients who are then sent for tests. They aren't screened, they are investigated.
