Borges is a solid player

again " done well" is a stretch.

Credit where its due, decent game last night. But the defending for the first goal at Portsmouth is absolutely diabolical. If I saw defending like that in my sons u12 game I'd be appalled.

True I'd paly him over Engel, but that is an incredibly low bar. Like arguing who is better, Mackems or Geordies!!!!
The richie run from deep though on Saturday - where is barlassor ? or hackney ?

Opinion is very fickle on here isn't it?

Borges has been getting pelters since he signed.

He actually has had a good reputation before we signed him. He was named in the top 11 players of his league in Sweden in 2018.

He does need to cross, when he has the opportunity, and doesn't seem to want to for some reason.

Played well last night.

He's a solid 6/10 nearly every game, expected more from him going forward but you can't have everything. I'd rather have Giles there bombing forward with Burgzorg getting back to defend, though

He is playing RW, Borges HAS to take that responsibility. That isn't a CM's prime task when Ritchie is directly facing up his left back.

There is an replay of the goal I saw on a Pompey fan page or something from a different angle. Borges sees the run, starts to go with Ritchie, stops, hesitates, not sure if he is trying to play him offside, or pass him on to Edmondson, then realises he has left him and trotts back. Astoundingly bad defensive play.

That was a horrible bit of defending between Borges and Edmundson!

This is why I love football, opinions differ so much, I thought Borges settled into the game but in the first 10 minutes, 3 times he just passed the ball to space, he constantly gets caught out of position, for a LB he tucks inside too much which leaves him to much room to make up on a winger and leaves him exposed for pace.

He is a whole hearted player but IMO a good squad player, countless times last night he got I to good offensive areas that he basically passed back when we where on the attack, we need the LB to yes defend but we also need them to overlap and deliver quality balls in the box.

That being said at present Borges or engel is fine as back up to a better LB.

I also think Borges or Engel could play LCB comfortably in a 3

He drove us up the pitch before passing to Hackney for the first goal. He was overlapping quite a lot in the first half, too, which was needed as Doak had a quiet first half

I have been a big critic, he seemed to want no responsibility at times, getting up there and giving short submissive ball to team mates instead of braying the ball in when it seemed obvious to do so. Maybe it has dawned on him that this wont get him the plaudits.

It was a big ask coming from the French championship level, one thing I notice at times he has taken big whacks, but never went off on the sick for months, he has generally recovered (good sign) He now has to show us what he can really do consistently, or at least die trying to.

I thought he was solid first half last night. A few opportunities to cross last night that he didn't take, although he did eventually put in a good one.
Our system and patient play is all about keeping working the ball until you get that one man in space. If you don't deliver at that point it gets a little frustrating. I don't mean just slinging in a pointless cross i mean the situations when your're on the overlap, at speed, and you've got chance to whip it in. That may come more and more with confidence.
I thought 2nd half his man got behind him a few times early on, but then he seemed to settle again.

You don't stand and berate a lino when the games going on
Absolutely! Yes he was unlucky to give the free kick away, but it nearly cost us when they took it quickly.
Also, whenever he got the ball in an advanced position he always turned round and passed the ball back.

I think he’s done well last night. Really solid and has had to deal with the back four changing a lot which is not easy for understanding and he’s come from a completely different league.

I think he’s a good passer of the ball and is really comfortable in possession, is a decent defender and is our best left back.

I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves.

I honestly think Giles on balance, wouldn’t be an upgrade.
I think Borges is solid enough, decent on the ball and his positioning is good, but he quite slow for a full back.
