Blackburn FA Cup Ticket Details

They have every right to do that of course, every time they do something like this it makes me less likely to buy a season ticket because it just makes me feel like they're not interested in our (general sale) support. See also two tier pricing for early bird season tickets. It's their prerogative but they'll reap what they sow when things go wrong because they're alienating a portion of their fan base.

I think the club take the view that the only really effective way to increase attendance longterm is to put something worth watching on the pitch: get people to want to invest in STs.

After that, they heavily incentivize renewal to maintain sales when results are disappointing.

10-12 years ago we chased the walk up fan with ticket offers; average attendance got down to below 16k, with less than 13k for some league matches.

No structure is going to suit everyone, and I do agree with the principle that tickets overall are too expensive for what is on offer. However, the club will feel they've made the right decision regarding prioritising STs over walk ups.

You’re missing the point.
What is the point?

Rightly or wrongly the club will always keep season ticket holders happy and incentivise season tickets as much as they can. It’s this lump sum of money every season which probably keeps the club going, walk up fans unfortunately aren’t the fans they are targeting

Prices are ok.
I'm not going because it's now a really inconvenient kick-off time for me. But I'm so glad it suits our International TV audience. Hopefully I'll get my morning stuff out the way and be home in time to watch it on my 'international' tv.

There'll be idiots complaining about bias when ST holders get priority for play off final tickets.

I'm not an St holder myself, so have no axe to grind.
I would add some posters just seem permanently angry or are manipulative trolls, whatever the Club do on ticketing it will be wrong, bar giving out tickets for free.

Anyone attending Boro home league games and paying the full adult price for Cat A games is partly subsidising the Club at current prices, so they have something in common with the Chairman. Some other club owners are subsidising their fans such as Stoke. I am not saying what is right and wrong, just an observation.

It’s three quid difference

But the season ticket holders have already put £600 into the club up front before the season even started. No surprise they have some kind of loyalty discount
They get a big loyalty discount every league game.

It all depends on the objective of the club.
Ok - they are looking after ST holders and want to make non ST holders pay more. That’s their call.

The chance to stick a few 000 more on the gate by equalising the price wouldn’t cause a problem to ST holders would it?
And, I don’t believe any ST holder is persuaded to buy one on the premise they will get the odd cheap ticket for a cup match.

The two tier pricing is small minded and petty, I would say.

That could be argued the other way too surely, if you’re going to quibble about £3 as a reason for not going?!

Don't disagree with a lot of that @Frozen Horse but it's a depressing thought to think that the club believe they've got the pricing structure right when there's often 10,000 free seats empty, particularly when we're arguably playing some of the most attractive football we've played in two decades.

The stadium is there to serve the club; the club isn't there to serve the stadium. It's full seats that matter, not empty ones.

We currently average 24,683, and the pricing structure would be no more right or wrong if we had a capacity of 25000 or 45000
10 k is a bit of an exaggeration though, given the functional capacity isn't much more than 30k these days.

I do think clubs should have empty seats in the championship though: any club that doesn't is looking to expand their ground.

The chance to stick a few 000 more on the gate by equalising the price wouldn’t cause a problem to ST holders would it?

I think you assume if they went for one price for all, it would be the £15 price, not the £18? Does it deter walk up fans knowing ST holders get a better deal, and would it make them more likely to come if they thought ST holders were paying the same?

I agree, cup ticket pricing won't influence my decision when it comes to renewal, and I wouldn't object at all to walk ups paying £15 too. I do think there is a myth that ST holders will "kick off" if we're not treated better than others though. I don't think this is true, or ever has been. Every year is a conscious, rational decision to renew or not, based on how many matches I can get to. So far, the club has made it worthwhile for me to keep renewing, but I wouldn't be angry if some year, it was better for me to be a walk up fan. I'd just make the choice that was right for me.

However, I think the club is just being consistent in it's message that you're better off being an ST holder, even if that means we do end up paying more over all.

It's not quibbling about the three quid, is it? It's about having to pay more as a point of principle.

I've had a season ticket for over 30 years and getting a 'discount' for cup ties has never been part of my motivation for doing so.

Agreed. See post #51.

Heck, there's never a guarantee there even will be a home cup match.

The bottom line is the club would like more fans to make the big investment, i.e. in a season ticket. They're just reinforcing the consistent message you're better off being a season ticket holder (even though that ultimately means spending more on the club in most cases).

OMG, if fans don’t want to go to the game, don’t go, after all it’s your own choice.
It’s my intention to attend, even though I loathe the opposition with a passion!

Of course it could - it’s about the club and what they want.
They have decided on a two tier system for fans on one off games.

I think that is shabby - others think its fine n dandy

C’est la vie and all that

The prices are more than fair, season ticket holders should get benefits.

£15 for me is a great deal.

Dont you think ST holders should receive benefits for loyalty?
They got a benefit with their season ticket being so heavily discounted in comparison to someone buying for the first time, plus priority point advantages and, in some cases, complimentary drinks. They are more than rewarded for their loyalty.
