Big shout out to the Shopkeepers and Supermarket staff.

What a cracking thread . Same goes for posties etc and just about anyone that’s getting out of a bed in the morning/evening and turning in . Also don’t forget their partners who are probably doing so much more than pre covid world - looking after kids etc .

Many people are not currently working ( not particularly by their choice ) but............ I know of a few on furlough who are........ errr let’s just say kind of enjoying it .
Won’t dwell on negativity however on a positive thread though 👍

Borobarmy agreed mate there are lots of people doing excellent work that deserve praise. Little did I think when I posted the original thread on 26 March we would still be in same position now. (y)

Had a walk in Goodwin's in Redcar yesterday, it was like walking in a television studio with a the marks on the floor showing you where to stand. Well organised and well stocked, picked my few bits and pieces up and back home. Redcar we very quiet yesterday.
Unfortunately many shops safety standards have slipped badly as time as gone on. Morrisons for instance. You had to queue and only a limited amount let in. One way in one way out. Last few times I have been its like a free for all. I am not blaming staff here as they will be just following rulings from above. It just seems to me that Supermarkets are probably one of the most likely places to spread the disease.

Not so much the standards as those abusing those standards. It’s the only place I could catch the virus frankly as I don’t have any other interaction outside my bubble. I feel for all the staff there who do a great job. Behaviour isn’t so great. Last March people played by the rules but they don’t now. No respect for space. Few using the hand gels and spray disinfectant on the trolley handles. Picking up packages and fruit to inspect and then replacing them. Not sneezing into elbows is a particularly poor habit. Even with a mask on.

Staff there deserve every praise they get.

Agree with most of what you say but Supermarkets should be restricting numbers entering as they did in March.
Also to many shops open that I would not class as essential. IMO.

Agree Red, when we went in to tier 3 I couldn't get my head how things like Card Factory were allowed to open.

Dont get me wrong I know we have to keep the economy going and keep people in jobs where we can, but I struggle to understand why browsing shops like B&Q can open and why the larger supermarkets can keep the parts open that sell clothes and electricals, it just encourages people in to browse which is one of the worst things you can do.

One thought could be if supermarkets actively encouraged more people to use their click and collect service (by making it free) then this might mean fewer people need to go in to the supermarkets. I say click amd collect as the delivery services are probably about full.

MFC . I’m lucky insofar as I look after my mam who is 89 and I live alone . Since last March I’ve not been anywhere in a store . I do click and collect and hence forward it’s what I’m going to carry on

I know the NHS are getting roundly applauded and rightly so but would just like to say a big thanks to all the shop workers and supermarket staff. As people can see they are also doing a fantastic job. Went to Morrisons in Redcar this morning it was really well organised. Queuing 5 metres apart and only took 5 minutes to get in. Those in there had enough room to keep their distance. Shelves were well stocked with only pasta, toilet rolls and all beans but Heinz sold out. Well organised at the check out with only on allowed to approach at any one time. Same with the smaller shops like the butchers I went to. Only two in at any one time.

A big big thanks to all concerned and all those others who are keeping open for our essential services and making this whole lock down thing just a bit more bearable.
God you had me worried there until I saw the date. Thought they'd brought queues back.

When I was in there last weekend the place was wick with loo roll.Stacked all over the place.

Yes I did buy a pack :D

Not a floret of broccoli to be had though.

I think the kids on the supermarket checkouts have been brilliant from the start. Interesting there’s never been any talk about them getting higher rates of infection despite their numerous daily contacts.
