Biden on Brink of Withdrawing From the Race

Unless they can dig up and re-animate the corpse of FDR, I see no way Trump loses regardless who they end up replacing Biden with(If he even steps down at all).

Sadly I agree.

Be interesting to see what happens in the next 4 to 8 years with Trump and then Vance, who seems to say anything he wants to get in to power. Seems to me he has no real convictions other than using people as step ladder to get to where he is going.

However, 4 months until the election which is a long time

I have to say I'm not confident about the outcome whether Biden steps down or not, but one thing to note that is that Harris is currently polling almost exactly the same as Biden, which is to say pretty much neck and neck with Trump overall - and that is without actually being the official nominee.

Polling shows both Harris and Biden tied with Trump

Given that there is usually a slight bump in ratings simply for being the official candidate, if she did replace Biden her poll numbers would almost certainly rise a bit.

It's also interesting that, as that article also states:

The poll also found that none of the Democrats who have been mentioned as possible alternatives — including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer — performed any better than Biden when compared to Trump.

Which means they also don't outperform Harris, since her numbers are almost identical to Biden's.

Good.

It's been an unseemly ending though, and it's definitely weakened the Democrats chances that it's taken this long and that he's been so clearly forced to withdraw against his will.

Should of happened a long time ago.He started showing signs of dementia halfway through his term.If the Democrats now can't find a suitable replacement and get destroyed in the election, will be their own fault.

Say it again though, I don't foresee Trump losing anyway.

Stupid decision IMO, way too late - they'd have been better off supporting him.

Would the world?

While I have some sympathy with the "anyone but Trump" sentiment, the US needs a strong leader.

The prospect of 4 more years of Biden had one virtue: it was better than Trump. It doesn't mean it was a good option in its own right.
