Best free kick scored by a boro player

Definitely answered you're own question there. The power and accuracy off such a short run up was ridiculous.

Annoys me that it doesn't get talked about more as one of THE great free kicks not just in Boro's history

In isolation Rockys was probably better (not much in it mind) but it was meaningless.

Jimmy's was not only ridiculously good, but it was one of the most important goals in the clubs history. Think he scored 4 that season, which is Beckham territory.

Didn't Zenden try and take it first, made a mess of it but it had to be retaken for some reason? Jimmy pushed him away and decided he was just going to smack it.

I think Rochembacks was better because he got it over the wall and still had loads of power behind it

Agree about Jimmy.

What took the shine off FRs for me was the number of freekicks he'd taken previously that were a danger to the shipping behind the North stand. My reaction was to that one going in vs City was more "well one of them was bound to go in eventually" rather than "what an amazing piece of skill". It was a day for miracles, after all.

French Franck vs Brum is an underrated effort. I think Ramirez put in a beaut vs Huddersfield too.

obvious ones mentioned. will give honourable mentions to:

boksic at st james
geremi at anfield
Ziege at the riverside put a good one in
Sure downing scored a few belters too

Didn't Rocky also score a couple where his mishit them a bit, bounced a couple of times and somehow still went in? Think that style of free kick, sort of knuckleball, is very low percentage but looks amazing on the rare occasions they come off.

Yeah Franck's was good but helped by Mustoe shoving part of the wall out the way I think 😁. Ramirez was pretty special.

Afonso Alves, Ziege and Malaury Martin are others that spring to mind.

Rochemback v Man City is not just my best free kick by a Boro player, but one of the best ever by a PL player. Getting that amount of bend and power combined was incredible.

The correct answer is Jimmy v Man City and every other one falls into pale insignificance.

We'll be hard pressed to see a free kick with such power and balls again - Greenwood v Leicester was good but it was a finesse goal. Hasselbaink threw the kitchen sink at that ball. A strike of a true maverick.

Jimmy’s away at City for me as well.

It was pretty far out, a 2 step run up, and a classic in off the bar which always makes it look better. It was an insane strike!

As mentioned above, I also can’t believe it’s not talked about more.
